kicker L7's 15's vs Diamond TDX 12's

before you say apples and oranges...the only reason i posted this is because
i think the L7 15's should have crunched a way bigger number on the meter...but without giving it all away...ill continue

I will start by giving some background....

05 Escalade SUT (ill find pics and post)
subs: RMS 1000 Watts
Kicker L7 15's (two of them in a sealed box *3 cubic feet per*)

amp: birth certificate said ~2800watts @ 2 ohms (mono amp)
kicker kx 2500.1

--------------------------------------------------VS---------------------
05 Tacoma doublecab (check signature)
subs: RMS 800 Watts
Diamond TDX 12's (two of them in a transline box)

amp birth certificate said ~1700 watts @ 4 ohms bridged (two channel amp)
Diamond D7402

--------------------------------head to head---------------------------

so as some of you may have read i hit 153.7 on an audiocontrol mic with my setup...
granted...immediately after hitting that score, i popped my amp...which has yet to come back from diamond...*mutters obscenities*

Well the shop that i get my work done at had recently finished a huge install on this escalade and it was back in the shop to fix the minor stuff that needed attention...
while there, they put it on the audiocontrol mic

during three runs his best by a stretch was 149

two L7 15's with 2500 watts on them only hitting 149...wtf

is there that much of a difference between a good ported box and a sealed?

maybe i just find it amusing that my SQ subs pound harder than two L7 15's that had nearly twice the wattage

of course thats just numbers...it sounds louder than my system...feel more air moving...so i dont know *shrug*

any ideas anyone?

It does seem very likely that the box was the reason (aside from the fact that your TDX's, regardless of what you're aiming for, is a helluva better sub than the L7) why he didn't even break 150...

Personally, I'm not surprised at all... I've seen the graph on the L7 before and you can expect an increase on the dB meter simply by swapping boxes...

On a different note, where was the mic placed??

Yeah the sealed box is the disadvantage here. If he was ported I'd think that he'd get around a 3 db increase.

i remember when i went to a db drag and there was this guy with a tricked out navigator and he had 2 15inch l7's in a "sealed box" and he was acting like a big shot and when he went he only hit 142 db . i ended up hitting 144. the sealed box ended up screwing him over....lol
