Gen 5 Camry Front Door Speakers Mounting Depth?

Hi All,

Can anyone please tell me what the mounting depth is of the factory 6x9 in Gen 5 camry front doors? (Anyone got some spare stock front speakers lying around and can check this for me please?)

I don't really want to make spacers, just want to buy new speakers that bolt straight in to factory door location.

Alternatively, if anyone has actually found some after market 6x9 speakers that do bolt straight in without spacers, please let me know what brand/model number.

Thanks,

zooz

Have you taken off the door panel yet? If it's anything like the factory 6x9's in my truck here's what you're working with as far as mounting diameter.

If it's like mine, there will be no speaker that you can just screw right into the door. And if you can the mounting depth will most likely be under 2.5"

You really are best off with making an adapter.

My friend Marv's wife has a Gen 5 Camry, he can probably make one and send it to you if you don't mind paying for it, plus the shipping to Autralia :s

Thanks for the pics. I haven't taken the door skins off yet, wanted to wait until after I bought speakers to save wearing out the clips etc.

That's a major bummer. :-)

Thanks for the top offer, much appreciated. However I do have tools/skills to make adaptors, just not the motivation. :-)

Hey anoiel,

I'd really appreciate if you could get an accurate measurement of the mounting depth, (from under speaker rim to end of magnet) if not too much trouble.

Thanks,

zooz

Do the power windows come down behind it? They did in my Focus and I couldn't use the baffles I bought.

Yes, the window going down behind the speaker is what causes the limit to the mounting depth of the speakers

Anoiel - thanks for taking the time.. I'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Cheers,

you need to make spacers or else the speaker will have less than 3" to work with. I tried it and my windows couldnt roll down......

I just took the stock speaker, tore it out of its plastic housing and bolted the new speakers to the old speakers plastic housing. works perfect

Thanks guys.

So with a 3/4 inch MDF spacer, you don't have any problems with the door trim going back on? Or do you have to cut any plastic baffle on the inside of the door skin? Or is it all just hollow room behind the door skin and accommodates the taller speaker mount?

Thanks,

zooz

I just did this tonight and the fit is very close. I put the door panel back on and could see part of the spacer just touches the panel. Didn't seem to effect things though.
