Stock headunit

I have an 05 Camry and am about to buy subwoofers off my friend. I'm not a crazy audio guy so I was wondering if I can connect the subs to the stock headunit? and what difference there would be between a stock headunit and an aftermarket one.

stock amp = no power
aftermarcket amp = lots and lots of power

if you get ur woofer to pull from ur stock unit, most likely it'll be soft and not much bass (base? sp?) so i'd say that if u don't get aftermarket amp (alpine, JL, kenwood, or a getto one, et cetera) thered be no point in getting woofers (anyone correct me if i'm wrong)

(also if u do use stock and a friend comes over and is like wow.. woofers with no bass, lets turn it up all the way! he'll f- up ur stock speakers and stock unit.. .so... if u know what i mean)

so basically, stock unit with big woofers = not much sound at all

well, I am going to have an amp with the woofers but I'm not financially ready right now for a headunit. So yeah, that's my whole story.

if the woofers are cheap, go for it

make sure u have amp power in mind and see if those woofers will go with the amp. if the woofers are low wattage rating and u have in mind 1000W amp, don't get the woofers but if the woofers handle lots of power then go for it. ur choice mate

just make sure u end up with an amp that doesn't fit these woofers power wise

i'm getting 2 12's with an amp for $75. but i was just wondering if i'll need a headunit. i'm guessing not though. it's just going to be weaker than an aftermarket headunit.

^ You need a line out converter. It converts speaker level inputs into rcas.

oh ok i see what ur asking. sorry man i read ur post late last night and was kinda sleepy.. ok so

yes the stock head unit will work perfectly. i have not tried to plug any more speakers to the headunit so i don't know what kind of adapters/wires u'll need. i'd go with 88 LE since he prolly knows. so all u need to do is find out how to plug ur setup into the stock headunit. aftermarket headunit won't give any gains except for more equalizer options and more power to the woofer but thats irrelevant cause ur gettin a seperate amp for ur woofers anyways

good luck

amps take in rca signals, which are low current signals. What the stock headunit sends out is a high current out, to the speakers. What the LOC is convert betweent the two.

if u look at a amp u will see that it has a side where u plug in a set of rca's. u connect the other end of the rca to the AFTER MARKET headunit which have rca outputs. the rca cables transfer the music . since u will be using a stock deck. u need a converter like the one 88le posted. it converts the speaker wire signal into a rca cable signal so u can connect it to a amp. do some searching in the ultimate audio sticky to learn more about amps,deck,subs,speaker....ect
