I recently purchased an Eclipse AVN5495. I took out the old headunit from my 2001 camry and discovered that the harnesses don't match up with the Eclipse head unit. I'm talking about the two plugs that are plugged into the top right of the dash when you first take out the old head unit.
Just a heads-up for anyone else who's looking to buy the same unit.
Here is what the plugs from the vehicle look like.
if you go to pepboys or auto zone or any audio shop, they will have a metra harness (the harness shown in the crutchfield link). it will cost you 10 dollars and make your life very easy. DO NOT CUT ANY FACTORY WIRES! they also have them at wallmart.
you will notice that the wires comming from the harness match up with the wires comming from your eclipse deck. the purple, green, gray, and white wires (and the ones with stripes) are the speaker wires, just so you know. if you are running an amp, those need to go directly to your amp via speaker wire. if im not mistaken, those are the top row of the eclipse harness (just so you know).

cam is right, i have a 94 camry with a factory amp that powered the rear speakers. I bought a pioneer HU and the wiring harness and it didnt fit into the stock plugs just like you. Like cam said those white plugs behind you are the factory bypass connectors, unplug those and your wiring hardness will plug into those and the rest of the connectors you are holding in you pic just leave then hanging, you dont need them.
from what i understand, you plug the metra harness into the car's original harness, and then connect the loose ends to the loose ends of the new wires of the headunit. is this correct?

That is correct IF those Amplifier Bypass harnesses don't plug straight into the Eclipse headunit(may or may not)
If they do not plug straight into the Eclipse Unit then you will match the right wires of the loose ends of the Metra/Scosche harness to the ends of the Eclipse Harness. You can do this with soldering, or just twist them and use electrical tape. Solder and shrinkwrap perfered.
It's also easier to do this in the house or in the garage instead of in the car. The metra/scosche wires will be labeled and the Eclipse harness may or may not, if not I'm sure it will be in the manual.
After you have done this, plug the metra/scosche harness's into the factory amplifier pypass harness shown in the top right corner of the pic(or like explained in the write-up)

no, ok your HU comes with a plg that fits into the back of it and has a bunch of different colored wires coming out of it. Each wire is for something different one for the + front left speaker and one for the - fron left spearker. 2 for the front right speaker, 1 for power, 1 for ground and so on. The problem is that those colors dont always match up to the colors of the wires in your hands. The hard way was to cut off the white connectors you are holding and ditermine what each wire connects to and solder it to the corisponding wire coming from your HU. The easy way is to go to your local bestbuy, now i normally wouldnt recomend bestbuy but this they cant screw up, and go to the audio section and look for the metra harness that fits you make and model car. It will be like fits all toyotas 2000+ or something like that. Buy that and about 20 18-22 gauge butt connectors unless you feel confident in soldering. It should have two different connectors each with multiple wires coming out of it. Those wire colors will match up with your HU harness wire colors. So all you need to do is match up the colors and crimp them together. Some wires may not be used, thats ok just put some electrical tape around them. Then the part your most confused about is unplug the connectors i circuled. These will bypass the amp under your passanger seat that fet the rear speakers because your HU has a built in amplifier and its not good to send an amplified signal into and amplifier. The wiring harness you bough should fit right into those two connectos and your ready to go.
Looks like I may need to take some better pictures and explain exactly how to do this for people... A step by step if you will.. so there is no confusion
