98 avalon stock subwoofer

as i posted before i was thinking of installing 2 12" subwoofers in my 98 avalon. however i saw what looked like a stock subwoofer behind the rear seats but still in the main cabin. located right under the rear windshield. does anyone know what size this is and how it sounds after being replaced with a better aftermarket subwoofer. also could i run it from my stock deck if i installed an amp to power it? how would the sound quality be? any input helps.

I would guess it's an 8 or 10. You can run aftermarket subs with the stock head unit. You will need line-out converter or an amp with high or speaker level inputs. Then hook those to the rear speakers.

you can push a sub with a factory head unit but why would you want to? it would be like feeding an elephant tic tacs.

The factory sub is an 8", but the mounting is very particular. You can't simply drop another brand in, especially if it's not free air type. The OEM amp doesn't have enough power to drive anything besides the OEM sub.
