A hard drive is absolutely useless to audiophiles if you can't play lossless audio formats (notable FLAC, WavPack, Monkey Audio, etc.). Storing massive amounts of MP3s on a hard drive (see Alpine, Sony, etc. failures) has become obsolete with the advent of MP3-laced DVDs and iPod integration.

I said it once and I'll say it again.

Gimme copper chassis, no internal amplifier, removable brushed aluminum faceplate, 24-bit Burr Brown DACs, organic LED display and I'm sold. But until then, the Ural is at the way bottom of my list of replacements for my current combo..

But my Alpine setup cost less and is just as versatile and a proven competitor.

Oh sure, it's a great setup, but by your standards it's not good enough

You know, maybe I'm blind, but I don't see anywhere in that passage where the word "group" is defined

It's a bad mofo. And for 500 bucks it's a steal. Not for everyone of course, and you gotta not mind taking a risk of having it breaking on you.

I will take that risk
