question about size of my amp/sub wire

i have had a kicker 600.1 amp and s10L7 sub running for a while... i used 4 gauge wire for the power and ground...

i am selling the setup, as i am more interested in listening to my turbo, and the l7 is kinda overkill... i am just switching up to an inifinity basslink since it is pretty light weight and compact and mountable etc.

question is this - they say to use 8 gauge wire, but can i just use my 4 gauge which is already setup with a nice ground and ran to the battery and hidden well and everything, or is there any potential problem with using to large a gauge wire...

also could you explain why the anwser is as it is... is it ever bad to use too large a gauge wire? i underestand why it is not a good idea to go to small...

You're fine, just make sure the inline fuse near the battery is equal to that of the Infinity Basslinks fuse rating.

well i always had a 60amp fuse on the 4g wire... that is probably going to be to high for the basslink... i think that amp only has a 20amp fuse?

i will check when i order it, thanks!

Nate just get a distribution block with fuse holder....I am a genius....that'll allow you to make it down to an 8awg without doing anything else.....and you can keep the fuse under the hood too

But wouldn't that call for him to run 8 awg in place of the 4 awg he has now? Or are you talking about something different?

no the 8awg comes AFTER the distribution block he can keep 4awg all the way through the car and put the distribution block before the amp

I'd just stay with what you have. Why spend more money on something that isn't neccesary?

And chances are you will probably get tired of the basslink very quickly and switch back anyways

If you plan on using another amp to power your front speakers, then I would go with a Fused Distribution block and use 8 gauge to each amp.

But for now the quickest, easiest thing to do is just use what you have and use a smaller fuse. There is no big negative effect of using a 4 gauge power wire if you only need 8.

^ true true

yeah i am going down to the basslink... since when i really crank up the kicker, i can't hear my motor at all, and that is no fun with the BOV

plus 600 watts RMS is loud... but not THAT loud... i am never going to win a good bumpoff with my kicker setup, unless i put some time into a good box and all - and that is just going to add a bunch of weight to the rear end i have been trying to eliminate!

plus the CF trunk rattles like a mofo, and i don't want to sound deaden it... because again - you guessed it! weight

so yeah, basslink for now - 200watts of love, figure it will be good enough to hear some nice deep bass with my snoop and slick rick - but keep confined to its little corner in the trunk haha

PLUS that damn plexiglass box i bought for the kicker was SUCH a stupid purchase... it matches nothing on the car and looks so corny... it is up for sale btw soon
