97 Camry LE V6 stereo questions
Hi,
I have a 97 Camry LE V6 with the premium factory stereo (tape/CD and 6 speakers). I think originally it was listed as 100 watts but I can't find any info confirming that. Ideally I'd like to have an AUX input to it to hook up a portable XM (Airware) receiver but it seems that you can't get any type of adapter to fit this stereo. '98 and up seems to be doable. I'm trying to avoid the cassette adapter route because of mechanism noise. The stereo sounds good. Only quirk is some rare cracking/popping from the power/volume knob if you pull on it a bit but pushing it off/on seems to get rid of it.
This stereo has an amp behind the glovebox (part 86280-AA020) and might have a small subwoofer somewhere but I haven't been able to confirm that. There is a small cable similar to the antenna cable but thinner right next to the antenna cable. Anyone know what that is? One guess was a sub cable.
If I try to go after market on the stereo I might end up having to replace speakers etc. so I am trying to find out if a newer year Camry OEM stereo might work in this car. My first attempt to talk to a local dealer sent me from the parts department to service but the stereo person wasn't available.
There is only one harness connection into the head unit and it looks like 15 pins on the stereo connector.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please let me know. I've seen some info about direct wire AUX inputs to the tape deck for other car makes but not this. Maybe the best route will be after market.
Thanks.
