Ever since I installed my sub and amp, I have been getting a small zap every time I touch the body of my car. Sometimes they're little, like static electricity, and other times they are a little more painful. To my knowledge, I have everything grounded and done correctly. What could be going wrong? What should I do?

Get some dryer sheets and rub all over your seat.

i guess you could try those rubber strips that hang from the bottom of ur car and touches the ground ... i see em at ricer shops. I guess they're called "grounding strips"

Thats funny I get shocked every time I come out of my car and I don't have amps or subs... I just have a Pioneer DEH-P80MP CD Player in my car but it could be something else. I did replace the battery and some speakers not to mention a equalizer.

Haha thats funny. I get shocked every time as well. I installed all 4 of my speakrs and a head unit myself and I probably didnt seal the wires too well.

Maybe you didnt ground 1 of the wires. 1 wire could make all the differnce

im pretty sure it has nothing whatsoever to do with installation of any type of car audio.. its simply that you are creating static electricity as you exit your car ie:pants rubbing on the seats and when you touch the metal of the car, you are discharging the shock. no?

DO you have leather seats. I have leather seats and never get shocked. That might be it. But I have never heard of that happening.

ya im pretty sure hes right and its just static electricity. And you wouldn't get shocked from you leather seats because theres no friction on them compared to the cloth seats. You only notice it now because during the winter the air gets dryer then normal and the static happens a lot easier.

Yea same thing happends to me. Mostly in the winter time tho.

two possibilities...when you installed your amp, if it is metal, it could be touching the body inthe trunk somewhere, in which case all you have to do is move it. another case is that there's a bare wire somewhere near the deck...it'd have to be a power wire somehow...get that stuff fixed, cuz you can fry fuses if you dont...

More than likely it is jsut static electricity. It is worse inthe winter because of the dry air. That is one reason gas stations have signs to touch something metal after you get out of your car to disharge that static so as not to cause a spark while you are pumping the gas.

it's possible...but i've seen what i described quite a few times...yeah you can try the dryer sheet thingy
