Sub in 40% split seat ????

I want to know how feasable/hard/smart/dumb this might be.

I have 1 10" sub, right now, in a box in the trunk.

I want to mount it 'inside' the back of the folding seat.

If i have to build a box inside the seat, im not worried.

What im hoping for with this is, a seat that looks stock from the interior, but from the trunk side has the sub mounted in it.

Here's a rough pic to help explain.

has anyone done this/ had experience with this ?

opinions

how small is the box your building? that most likely determine if you can restore the seat back to it's original look. Man that's an interesting idea you got there

if there's enough space you can do it. keep in mind that the seat might be a little hard since it wont have that much cushion on it anymore....

Why not give the illusion of the sub/box going into the seat. Carpet match a relatively slim-profile box for where the sub will be, and then so the same for a false-seat-back-amp-rack. Would be far more practical and less labor/design intensive. Just a thought.

What are the size requirements for the sub?

^I like that idea. For the other side you could do an amprack.

yea, you probably dont want to hack the back of the seat, thats where all the metal bracing for the seat is, so A - you wouldnt really have much to mount the sub too, B - you wouldnt be able to use the seat anymore

would be interesting to see how you would seal the rear of the seat though, and prevent the seat/box from flexing.

im thinking about doing something similar, except im going to rehash the whole rear deck and make a new one. since there isnt a good spot to mount a 12" there, im going to make a fiberglass frame and mount it underneath... ill post pics sometime of what my plans are.

Honestly, I think I'm gonna use my idea for my next install (whenever that is). I think the only problem would be mounting the box and amp rack. Somehow It would need to be supported from both the top and bottom especially with that little lean to it. But you could also get a little more room out of it by utilizing the "sunken in" portion that lead into the cabin, but still take up the wheel-well-to-wheel-well length of the trunk side. I just have no idea what the hell I'm gonna do with my current setup.
