Compustar alarm/ remote start ?'s

Ok, I'm looking into a alarm/ remote start system. I have a Manual tranny, and so far the Compustar 2WSS-AS seems to be the best bet. Does anyone have this system, can anyone give me some feed back on this thing? Also, do you think it's possible for a competent person to install it them selves? I've done some wiring before. I figure if I can wire a truck ignition w/ MSD 6 box from scratch that I should be able to do this install. Thoughts?

here's what I'm looking at, first one on the top: http://compustar.org/security_with_remote_start.htm

I have it and love it. It has crazy long range, and has no problem transmitting through buildings. I like how it confirms all of the actions. The remote tells you when the engine is running, doors are locked/unlocked/ or ajar. If you are in range, It will beep and vibrate if somebody is messing with your vehicle.

I'm pretty sure it will work with a manual tranny. It just takes some extra work and wiring on the installers part. It taps into the emergency brake, I think.

I got the alarm on Ebay for $230 I think. The labor was about $200. It took a professional installer about 6 hours to do it, but it was worth it. They had to add a transponder to fool my Taco's Engine Immobilizer security deal. The transponder was an extra $40.

The remote can take a little getting used to. Because of the 2-way action, there is a delay. You have to push the button and then wait a second or two for the truck to confirm the action. Because of the delay it's hard to program and adjust the settings, but once they are set, you're good to go. My installer used a special plug-in programmer to do it all.

The remote goes through batteries fairly quick. I replace the single AA about once a month. No big deal though.

I really like the 2WSS-AS, and would certainly buy it again. But unless you really need the 6000 ft. range you might want to consider the 2W900FM-AS

Well I've gotten quotes from 475-600 installed localy, so I've pretty much decided I'm doing this myself. I want the long range cause It would be really nice to be able to start my car right when I get out of class, then by the time I walk all the way across campus, and get to my car, it'll be warm, or cold, as the case may be.

Yes, if you know what your doing.

1. Know how to use a DMM.

2. Know how to find the correct wires.

3. Understand the difference between positive & negative triggers.

4. Know how to properly splice into wires.

5. Know how to properly use and hookup a relay.

6. Know when and how to use diodes.

Its not rocket science, but you are messing with a automotive electrical system.

Hmm well I don't know what a Dmm is (assume you mean the dealer manual or something)

and I don't know what a Diode is.

I have a few friends that have installed remote starts and Alarms on toyotas but never on a manual...

Hmmm, my alarm messed up for the third time today. So it's being kicked out of my car tomorrow. This CompuSTAR 2WSS-AS looks like it might be the winner alarm. I'll have to look into it.

Ask them to help you with the install.

CompuStar alarms are pretty complicated, especially if you're installing a remote starter on a manual trans.

And if your vehicle is newer, you have to mess with the engine immobilizer.

If you can cleanly pull it off, I'll be impressed.

I got mine brand new on Ebay for $230. Most retail car audio stores will ask over $400 for the 2WSS-AS.

Go here and decide which model you want, and then check Ebay.
