alright i took at look at those polk compenents and i did like them. thats something i would want to get. i have a good month or so before i come up with the money.

and i have one question regarding the passive crossovers. that isnt an amp is it? i would need an amp before the crossovers witht he approprate power going into it? because if i am going to need an amp anyway wouldnt it make more sense going with an active crossover?

last question is if i got an active crossover how do i wire the tweeters in there?

thanks alot

EDIT: does anyone know what sizes are apporpiate for the 01 LE camry? not only the size but the mounting dept?

A crossover only splits the signal to go to the appropriate driver, tweeter or woofer. It is not an amplifier. To power a set of component speakers, one channel goes to the crossover which splits then splits the signal into two signals for the tweeter and for the woofer. So to install a pair of components with a passive crossover, you will only be using two channels on an amp.

On an active setup, you would get tweeters and woofers and they will all be directly connected to a separate channel on the amp. You do not need the passive crossover because you use the head unit to tweak the crossover points. You must have a head unit that is capable of 3-way or high/mid/low outputs - not all head units support this.

My xle has a factory amp but im not sure how much it actually puts out....but you may have an amp already from the factory so if you can find out the wattage then your speakers maybe able to hand the new headunit alone.

I'd get a new headunit and speakers all together.
the rear speaker were rather straightforward for me, although i didnt replace them.

its just time consuming, pulling all the panels out to get to them.

The speakers does not need to be replaced even if you have an amp. Although it will sound a lot better if they were replaced. Before I got my Dynaudios, I was running the stock splits and rear 6x9 speakers off an old v12 amp. (80w rms x4) and it didnt blow the speakers. It made the speakers sound many many times better than with just an aftermarket head unit. Furthermore there are settings on the amp that you can set so that the speakers dont try and play sounds that it isnt supposed to like a 6in speaker trying to play 30hz.... (The gains on the amp wasnt set to minimum, it was actually in about the middle)

All you need to do is to set the gains on the amp properly. It is a common misconception that it is bad to place an amp of 200w rms to a speaker that is only rated at say 20w. It will NOT blow it up unless it isnt set up properly or if you are playing distortion through to the speakers.

The rear speakers are a pain to replace due to the speakers being held down by 3 screws instead of the conventional 4 screw configuration. You will have to make a new baffle (mdf ring) BUT it will probably make the speakers sit too high and hit the parcel shelf.

The fronts are easy to replace as there is heaps of depth and a 6.5in speaker will easily accomodate the hole without having to make a baffle.
