well as the title says i was curious what the specs on the stock speakers on the camry LE 01 are.
For one i dont even know the brand of them and for two i'm going to get an after market HU and i dont want to blow them! does anyone know what the thermal limitations of the driver are?
Note: i tried to find what type the sound system was but the closest thing anyone could tell me was "i think its bose" so really idk. so please dont i didnt look b4 i asked this question!
You can use most aftermarket HUs with the stock speakers without blowing them. I removed the speaker from my Camry and they had 15W printed on the bottom... If you get an amp, you'll need to change the speakers, but with just a HU, you should be fine as long as you keep the volume down.
I had my stock speakers running off my Kenwood HU for a while before I replaced them for better sounding speakers.

the speakers dont handle anymore than 20 i know that for sure.. the 6x9's in my 01 xle jbl ones were 20.. so yours are less most likely. unless its the same.. anyways yea nothing will happen if you get an aftermarket H/U.. I still have the speakers if you want theses ones instead lol.. anyone?..
ok i have one more question... does anyone know how big the tweeters on the car door are?
the mounting dept of them?
the mounting dept on the door speakers?
They sound nice and they can take quite a bit of power. My amp is rated 160W RMS @ 14.4V...dunno what it actually is though at normal operating voltage. Maybe 130W or so.
If you only have an LE with the standard not (jbl premium) system then you are better off changing the speakers. Be warned the 6x9's in the back can be tricky to replace. The ones on the door are okay.
My xle has a factory amp but im not sure how much it actually puts out....but you may have an amp already from the factory so if you can find out the wattage then your speakers maybe able to hand the new headunit alone.
^ The JBL system on the Gen 5 I had puts out 200W, probably peak wattage, so 50W x 4 peak. Probably about 20-25W RMS then...I noticed that the speakers are 2 ohms though.
alright i got a nice HU and it makes the speakers sound 100 times better.... what i'm going to do is wait till either i blow my speakers before i get new ones... or when i get the money to buy the tweeters first then speakers then eventually an amp. the only dellima now that i have is how many watts speakers/ tweeters to put in so they dont over power my sub (subs only 400 rms)
yeah as of right now i have a JVC arsonal 760 HU. i also have a sub (diamond audio D3 400 rms) and a D3 amp.
i really dont know the diffrence between active and passive cross overs.... i think passive has tweeters with it?(really not sure) but i would want to either go a set of compentnts up front. and a sepprate set of tweeters. if i cant find anything like that i guess i'm going to have to go with one of those speakers with the tweeters inside. i havent done much reasearch on these yet althoughi think i will either go with a diamond audio upfront or arc audio (i really like how both of them sound). i'm not sold on anything yet at all
if anyone has experence with a nice set of compents in camrys let me know. i really am open to suggestions.
Note: i'm not concerned with rear-fill at all. just the up front speakers.
Thanks!

Not really sure what to help you with on this.. May wanna shoot out a price though, so people know exactly how much you have to work with. I have Polk Audio db6750 like i said before and they sound pretty good. I would reccommend these, but if you arent gonna have rearfills then you probably want some good ones. These i find to just be great sounding for normal users. Maybe not so good to the trained ear, so to speak. But i cant really offer a good set other than the JL xr's.. or the alpine type-x.. they are both affordable and good component sets. Or you can just buy good tweets and good midrange speakers... your choice
Passive crossovers have a box that is slightly larger than a pack of smokes that connect to the tweeter and the woofer. It gets the signal from the amp and splits the signal to go to the correct driver. Settings on a passive crossover cannot be changed.
Active means that each driver gets its own channel from the HU and amp. You have full control of the crossovers through the HU, DSP, or amp crossovers. The HU will put out two channels for tweeters (left and right), two for mids, and two for subs.
The two in speakers are called coaxials and generally do not sound as good as components.
Something like Polk db 6750 are components speakers in that the tweeter and the woofer are separate and they have a passive crossover.
