Viper Responder Alarm...

i just talked with a local shop that has been in buissness for 36 years and is an authorized dealer for Viper alarms made by DEI. i just asked alot of questions and all. He quoted me $599 installed for the responder alarm and automatic start and kill option.
also it has a 1 MILE REACH on the responder!!!
Is this a good price? What should i ask him to find out if he is bsing or not. any good questins to ask when buying an alarm. I want the best! i asked him if he were to protect a VERY VERY expensive car what alarm he would get and he said this one.....(although mine ins't expensive)

whats the call guys? any hints, tips, or suggestions. i really like the responder feature. The 550 esp is $399 installled. with everyhting except responder key pad thing. so is the responder worth the $200 bucks.....????

Based on this site ( http://www.drdetailshop.com/viper.htm ) the price seems to be about right for the ESP550. I think they're overcharging for the upgrade to the 790VX. Call a few more shops for quotes.

I hope your car is Automatic FRITO, cause if it's manual then you'll have to buy an extra 5spd. module...

Frito, did u ever follow through with getting more information? I ended up grabbing one of ebay for $250. Thing is they have no warrenty unless installed by dealer. Install went smoothy for the most part. Only problem was 1 wire for the remote start, it took me a couple hours to figure that out. It works great and has exceptional range. I am very happy with it.

Frito, just as a heads up, make sure you get the newer Compustar (blue remote vs. black). It has a few more features. I also "heard" that they've started offering 2 remotes instead of one as part of the whole pkg now. Word on the street is Compustar is still better than Viper. Here's CompuSTAR's website if you didn't already know. www.compustar.org

Good luck and keep us updated.

dirtbike im glad u like it. have u been able to exactly ttest the range? that is what im curios about. the ppl at my shop still say 1 mil....sales pitch eh?

I have not been able to test the range on the alarm in a way that would enable me to confirm the 1 mile claim, but I can tell you that it does have incredible range compared to my older alarm and all of my friends alarms. If you are comfortable with installing it yourself and saying $250 dollars (but losing warannty ), I can give you a list of the wire colors to make the install go a bit easier. -Sean
