Gen5 Gen5 dash speakers are not standard 3 1/2"

Tried to replace the dash speakers on a Gen5 Camry and cannot find a 3 1/2" replacement. They are all too large. The stock speaker looks to be a special size.

HOWEVER, I had a pair of LPG 26NA tweeters and fashioned a mount for these out of 1/4" hardboard. With a simple first-order crossover and properly padded down, it sounds great even with the stock 6x9 midwoofer in the front door. The problem with the lack of clear treble in the factory system is with the poor dash speakers. The front 6x9s are actually pretty decent quality, though I did add some damping material behind to absorb the back wave (which clears up the midrange a bit).

Now after replacing the HU (more power -- the low end Sonys work well and look nice in the Gen5 Camry), my next step is to try a pair of 6.5" Vifa midwoofers in the front doors.

Wife thinks I am crazy with all this tweaking, but it looks promising.

Cool

You should check out www.diymobileaudio.com

You might want to consider the Seas CA18RNX mids or the G18RNX mids from www.solen.ca

Gen5 Re: Peerless Tweeters

Now that would be an interesting drop in driver! I am noticing many micro "home" tweeters that should fit fine in this application. Parts Express and Madisound carry quite a few and they are inexpensive.

My LPG 26NAs, being aluminum, do sound a bit metallic...must be the windshield loading that emphasizes this. So let us know how the Peerless tweeters sound...

How did the install go? Does it sound smooth and integrate well with the door speaker?

I wonder if you could fit these in there.

http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/ind....18181&pid=667

or the MD140/2 from http://www.dynaudio.com/

or these

http://www.zalytron.com/Usher8945M.htm

Then place a set of tweeters in the A pillar. And a nice 8"/10"midbass in the door

Tried them out just the other day & they failed miserably. As mentioned I tried them in the stock dash location, there was too much sound separation for my taste.I messed with the x/o's,eq & nothing helped. After moving them around to different locations I found that the tweets sounded better down by the mid-pointed upwards. The stage sounded more uniformed ,like a coaxial but better sounding & more directional(dash level).Recently received my Dayton RS180 mids & now I'm waiting on the LPG 26NA tweets so I'm totally revamping the front stage.I'll keep yall updated.
