1999 Headunit Upgrade

Hey guys,

I tried reading the FAQs but couldnt find an answer to my question.

My dad's beater 1999 Camry has the regular headunit in it (LE camry without the CD player). I want to upgrade it to a CD player headunit, preferrably an OEM stock one for a couple of reasons.

1. Its my dad. He doesn't care about sound, he just wants to play CDs.
2. I prefer OEM looking compared to the flashy color aftermarket
3. I figure an OEM unit can be easily obtained used either via ebay or this forum?

I'm just wondering what years are compatible (and other toyota models) for a direct swap that will maintain OEM look? The current unit has a blank space below it, I'm wondering if the CD units utilize this space? If so, how do I remove the extra slot?

Also, I don't know if camrys have this, but my BMW has a radio code that can only be obtained from the dealership by providing proof of ownership. I'm afraid of buying an OEM unit from someone and then encountering that problem.

And finally anyone have a cd unit for sale? My aim is Stupenal. Thanks!

Any stereo from Gen 3 or 4 Camry will fit in your car no problem. As long as they don't have an external amp, they will be plug and play. The stereos from a Gen 5 will be too wide to fit.

You can also pick up a scion cd player and have MP3 capability. That's what I'd do.

or just go with a not so flashy 100 dollar version of a brand name...they are definitely utilitarian and would be decent. look at www.cardomain.com 's store section.. you can get free adapters on some models and you are set.

that is if you don' t pick up a stock CD player
