My dad's new Pioneer HU kept shutting off, well the stereo would stay on but the sound would cut, and I couldn't figure it out. I pulled the stereo out and couldn't find anything. Pulled the panel with the speaker and one of the leads was shorting to the chasis (speakers were installed by some shop) and cauisng the thing to shut off and probably causing the old HU to be damaged. My suspicion is that you have a similar problem.

If you disconnect that one sub, granted you've wired up your amp to run one sub properly, and you can crank the volume up and it runs fine, then the problem is somewhere on that sub. You'd have to check your soldering or whatever else was repaird to make sure it's not touching anything it's not supposed to.

I really don't know since I've never repaired a speaker. Do you have any wicking braid?
