I was driving around today, and just after I reinstalled everything to finish the trunk project I realzied that the right mid wasnt playing. I thought it was just a phase issue.
So just now, i flipped the + and - on the amp, no dice. Flipped the rca input, no dice. Flipped the channels of the speakes(L speaker to R channel vice versa) no dice. I checked the resistance of the left speaker and at the 200 setting was .4 which equates to 4 ohms i believe. But in order to get a reading on the right i had to increse the setting to 2000 ohms, and got a reading of .4 which means 40 ohms? the only thing i havent done is pull the speaker and check its connections there, put i doubt that seeing as its just happened. I have no idea tho. please help.

Hook a 9V battery up to the leads on the speaker, see if it moves. If it doesn't move, then there is something wrong. It should push out or pull in depending on how you hook it up.

just to help, if you have an ohm function on your multimeter, which you should, .4 means .4 ohms....sounds like you have a burnt out voicecoil, since there is a lot less resistance than there should be

interesting, so what do the settings really matter then? i also find it weird that because the speaker that was working was showing .4 ohms then. Which cant be right

I was curious about this too, and I didn't get a multimeter until recently, and I have a habit of blowing my subs, so I checked my 4ohm sub, sure enough...4 ohms, ran the dual coils in serial...and it came out to 8ohms....parallel....2 ohms...and my blown sub....0.121 ohms or something like that....the coil gave almost no resistance
but also check your multimeter tho....mine has two ohm functions...one is for up to 20 ohms or something, and the other one is calcualted in the hundreds...so you may have just used different ones possible

yeah when it blows you tend to fuse the voicecoil together, allmost eliminating the resistance. I'm sure he probably just read the Ohm reading wrong on the meter. Has the 9V test been done yet to see if the speaker moves?

OK, thanks for all the help guys, heres where i stand.
Took off the wires fromthe amp and did a check with a 9v and a 1.5v, neither made a noise, reversed polatiry and all. Then busted out the meter and took a reading on the good side, and got 4.0, so i guess i was on the wrong mode last time. Took a reading on the right mid(the one thats out) and got nada, meaning no connectivity. So ill have to pull off the door and look at the speaker sometime, altough this means at least 5 days of driving w/ no right mid :-(

Welp, you have 1 of two things. Either there is a break in your wires (or the clips have come undone) or your speaker is blown. Good luck to yah. If they are new, see if it can be fixed under wanrentee.

yea, i was simply thinking that it was a speaker clip out. warrenty should be over by now. plus the fact that im feeding them way more power then they are rated for isnt too good.
