Crossover needed

Well, it's that time of the year again. Spring!! Which usually brings summer and that means it's time for me to upgrade my sound system again.

I want to run six channels of amplification plus a sub. Now what I need is a crossover or crossovers that will allow me to run a active three way front stage. I was looking at the AudioControl 6XS, it seemed like it should be able to do what I need to get done. If someone knows of a place to get a good deal on what I need, that would be sweet.

Speakers are Viper Audio components. A 5.25" set and then the woofer of a 6.75" set. They are decent, but I want my new components to be a little more audiophile quality.

Looks a little something like this.

I'm open to suggests about anything you see there too.

How much are you trying to spend? I prefer the headunit/processor route.

You can get a Clarion DRZ9255 for around 600 used and about 700 new. It has 4 way crossovers.

Or you can go with an Alpine DVA-9860/9861 + PXA-H701.

Also, you might want to put the tweeters in the A Pillars to get them a little more farther away.

Check out www.diymobileaudio.com when you have some free time. Lot's of great info there.

I'll spend whatever I have too, but I don't want to to be too insane. Have to buy turbo parts too.

I really like the deck I have now, so I would really like to keep it. But it is getting to be a few years old now, so I may wake up one morning to a quiet car. So when that happens I'll look at a new one.

What I was thinking last night is I could run a hybrid of active/passive crossovering. I could use active to seperate the midbass from the midrange/tweeter. So I could get it to only play 80hrz-280hrs. (Now it's playing 280hrz and down) The rest would just go to the other two channels of my 4 channel. Then the passive crossover would switch the midrange and tweeter (like it's doing now). Sub still comes out seperately from the deck as it is now. Maybe I should make a diagram of this, that would make things easier to understand.

That would be good enough for now till my deck needs replacing. And it would solve my biggest problem of my midbass speakers playing all the way down.

Alright, pictures make everything so much easier to understand.

Would something like this work? I should be able to control the level of each type of speaker individually. I still wont have anything for time alignment, but that will come later.

Thousands of dollars worth of AutoDesk software on this laptop and I still used MS Paint.

Amps are:

Viper Audio d600.1 - 425w RMSX1 @ 2ohms.
Kenwood Excelon KAC-X541 - 88w RMS X4 @ 4ohms.

Deck
Blaupunkt Pasadena with it's speaker level outputs plug removed. The sign that says you have arrived. It also has a built-in parametric EQ too, so I can djust the sound a bit.

Yes you can defintiely do that with good results. That would also be the only way you can do it with your 5/6 channels of total amplification.

You could run a completely active system, but you'll need 2 more channels, and a 4 way crossover. Or a combination of crossovers, but if youre going to use an external crossover at all, I'd have it do everything.

I just like having all my processing from the dash in the headunit, or have the processor directly controled by the headunit.

I have a RF Punch 150S in my room, another set of 6.75" Viper components and a another 12" Viper sub plus the crossovers and tweeters from the 6.75"'s I'm using as midbass drivers.

I would use the little RF amp for the tweeters, then I would run two tweeters are each channel for a 2 ohm load. So I could raise the RMS power from 37.5wX2 up to 75wX2. Increase the power output so I could turn down the amp a bit more. I like how I have my levels set right now, I can actually crank my deck right up to 66/66 and nothing blows up. This is good for dumb friends and it's cool to just sit there spinning the knob around and it not doing anything because it's already as loud as it can go (and as loud as a concert).

So now I have to look for a good quality 2-way cross over?
