98 Cmry Remote Starter Help.

I've just installed a 2-way alarm remote starter for my 98 camry automatic, the alarm works fine but the remote starter doesn't. When I start the engine with my remote, its start (crank) like you would with a key for 1-2 second then the control box (alarm) relay kick out to shut off the engine, engine wouldn't stay on. * Do I need the (Tranponder Bypass Kit ) or the hand brake to be conected? if so to neg(-) or pos(+) lead. the alarm I bought doesn't have the Tachometer instead it has the oil preesure/alternator sensing. Start up, control box relay cut off (i can hear relay cut off). Is there any setting to the control box ?Any input is appreciated, thankx Guys

I pulled this off the DEI website:

Category:Immobilizer BypassRequired:YesType:TransponderPart#:555XWNotes:When using the 555XW, the synch wire is blue/yellow, clock wire is red/blue, data wire is green/white, ignition wire is black/yellow, and ground wire is white/black.Alternates:556UW, DesignTech 20402, DesignTech 29402

Looks like you doo need an imobolizer bypass, so i'd get that. Also with a lot of these sensing units, they need to be "learned" so read up on how to make you system learn the proper functions.

Are you sure it's a plain key without a chip? You might want to consult your dealership on this just to make sure, but yes this can definatly cause starting issues cause it's designed to prevent the ar from being hotwired.

Yes, the keys I have it made at Home Depot, and it works without the chips. 98 4 cyl 2.2 liter LE. But I will double check on the dealer Monday.

Besides that, like i said before, these units have a "learn" function in which you teach it the difference between car On and car OFF. You need to program that too otherwise it will just turn off after a few seconds cause it thinks the engine didn't start.

Only '99-up Camry with factory alarm has the transponder, so your '98 will not need the transponder bypass. You really need that tachometer wire (purple from the alarm/rs brain, I believe) since that's the easier way of learning the RPM. IIRC, there is a wire that needs to be grounded also, which is typically connected to the parking (hand) brake. What brand of alarm/rs system is this?

this is incorect as some of the 98s had the transponder feature. However I highly doubt yours has it.

Alarm starter

I checked with the dealer, my car doesnt have the transponder, the purple line that need to connect to the charging out put or oil pressure, but I dont know how to make the brain to learn how to keep engine stay on. I also try to connected to the Tach wire too, the handbrake wire i also grounded (without grounding) the brain wouldn't start, but since B-wire is grounded thats why it start but wont stay running. is this one LUC. Look at the bottom wire diagram alarm with starter.

If you hooked everything up acording to the wiring diagram, then check the manual of the alarm for a learn function.
