popping tweeter

So I installed my JL XR650-CSIs and have a Alpine MRP-240 running them.

On very bright songs with really crisp mastering as well as really muddy tunes such as Foo Fighters, with my volume pretty close to max (but below where they distort, when amp is turned down), the right tweeter pops or clicks a tiny bit. I assume it's just being over driven a little.

What's the deal? I am running only 65% of the speakers max RMS power. The gain on my amp in at the notch, in the 50% position, so I would think that I should not be able to overdrive them with my current setup.

Any suggestions? I would expect to be able to push these speakers a lot more.....

Have you tried turning the gain down just a little? Gain position doesn't determine max wattage, just clipping level.

Maybe try another amp. Make surethe speaker isn't getting grounded out by the door panel, check the conections.

I'll try to turn the gain down just a bit. Is it normal for it to clip in the highest of high upper range, without distoring the mid frequencies?

I am 99% sure that I don't have any speaker wire ground issues. I took over 11 hours to route, wrap, and insolate everything pefectly. I can't imagine where, and besides, I really don't want to tear apart all of my work to find out.

Question about clipping. I know the amp is basicly on full all the time, and you are only adusting the input gain. So, by having the input gain up too much, it's clipping the incoming signal and amplifying that clipped signal?

Is it possible that I am clipping the input of my ipod to my headunit? If that were the case, wouldn't that be noticed even a lower volumes, because it's the "begining" of the flow, so to speak.

Is the gain at that "50% notch" at a neutral position, or is it "boosted half way". Is that knob only a boost starting a neutral and going up from there, or is it a boost over the 50% notch and a cut below the 50% notch?

Why would it be happening only on one side. Keep in mind that it's barely there, but after all my efforts, I notice every little thing. Could this have to do with the fact that I have about another 6-8 feet of speaker wire running to the other (non popping) speakers, thus the signal is just a bit lower? But than again, if it's clipping, that's happening at the amp and should be sent to both channels?
