So, I was playing my new JL XR650-CSIs fairly loud today, and experimenting with the gain. At no time, did I get to amp to clip, nor were the speakers distoring, but the right mid/bass just stopped working. The connections all still look good.
Please tell me I didn't blow it! What causes should I be looking for?

Yup, it's blown. I took one of the stock speakers to the same wire and it started right up. Oh well, teach me to buy over the internet, where I can't return. Oh wait, I did preach about that a week or so ago didn't i? Can you say irony?
Just went to best buy and bought some cheap rockford 2 way, and not only do they work, in my opinion they sound better. Go figure.........

that's strange...did you check the connections inside the speaker? and was there distortion before hand?
a speaker doesn't just go like that unless you burned out the coil....and if it was faulty beforehand, you should have been able to tell....so if anything, it sounds like a lemon more than the seller's fault

I know that these Rockfords shouldn't sound better but they do. I too am guessing that my JL were a bad pair. I couldn't get them to a reasonably loud level without they turning into mudd. At there loudest (while still clear) I could still hold a conversation. Just not what their reputation suggests.
Now that they are out, I don't see anything wrong. No burnt smell, no scars on the coil or cone, nothing. Just a dead speaker....
I have contacted the seller, but I have little faith that I will be able to get a refund. I guess that's what I get for trying to buy them for less on ebay.

lol, it's not like it's fake stuff. Anything you buy can get damaged if not properly set up. It sounds like form his previous post's, he was not sure about the gains settings. That might be the problem. But he should be able to just send it back where he bought it and get another set
Hell even I blew one of my Peerless Exclusive mids
