I replaced my 12 year old Profile that was running my tube, with an alpine m350 (MUCH BETTER)
Ditching that tube is next.....
So, I think I can squeeze, either a sealed 10" or a ported or sealed 8" in my availible space. I listen to a lot of metal, such as Metallica, and Marilyn Manson, so I am looking for recomendations.
I wan't deep bass, but nothing that's muddy at all. I know with the organic bass notes from drums and bass guitar this can be a problem, when compared to the syth bass in hip hop and electronic.
What sort of differences can I expect.
Also, I think I have a good handle on the 8 vs 4 vs 2 ohm thing in terms of load and power. But what about the sound? Does it change? My amp will run 4 or 2, so I am looking for recomendations for that as well.

well in a small enclosure such as a single cab, you wont need all that much noise to sound loud. If you like the bass really loud go for ported. It will sound worse for your rock type of music though because the bass lines are fast and not as smooth as say rap. Sealed sounds like the perfect deal for you. As for size i would definatly reccommend a ten for any circumstance. 8's just kinda lack in my opinion, although there are some that have really impressed me.
Honestly if you are doing a custom ported enclosure they need to be perfect an if you don't have the space you don't want to go ported. You migh have just enough space, but the box might be a pain in the azz & goofy looking. With listening to that kind of music stay with a nice soid sealed enclosure.

with bass, you'll always end up wanting more, ha! so might as well go with the 10" sub. everything else being equal, ported boxes give louder bass, just not as tight. but for any given speaker, a ported box has to have the right volume n ported (tuned) correctly for it to work like they're meant to.
u dont have much room, so i say go with a sealed 10". u can fudge more on box parameters with sealed. feed the sub at least 300W RMS n u'll have more than enuff bass. peace!
p.s. my local stereo shop showed me this Alpine amp n 10" sub combo. i think it as a Type R sub in a small seald box and a 300W mono amp. suffice to say, it sounded pretty darn good.
