amp was on for a min or two, now its dead???

HELP!

So, I installed my amp and sub in my 06 tC exactly like I have in my last 3 cars, with
the exception of one of those Rockford Install Edge RCA out add on
things to the stock hu. I had it running fine for about two minutes and the
amp cut out as I was fine tuning it. Absolutely no power. All the fuses are
fine, everything looks good but the thing is completely dead.
What's odd (to me anyways) is that when I first connected the hu no
sound could be heard yet the hu seemed to function perfectly other wise
and the power would only switch on and off when the car was turned on
and/or off but not when the hu was powered on and off. To trouble
shoot this I connected my old kenwood hu, it worked fine, amp, sub and
all. Then I reconnect the oem hu and I've got sound and bass for two
minutes, and now my current problem with the dead amp???

Any light anyone can shed would be greatly welcomed

TIA!

I'm thinking the Rockford LOC is sending more voltage to the amp than your previous headunit was, thus sending the amp into protection....

Try turning down the gain on the amp and see what happens.

It worked, I messed around with it for a while, got it all set up, shut off the car and went inside ... I came back out to put in a better cd maybe and hour and a half - two hours later and its not coming on again. ???

I sanded the grounding point to bare metal and I turned down the adjustments on the Rockford unit

Weird issue. Check remote wire? See if that's cutting out? If anything, just hardwire it straight to the positive lead for testing purposes.

At last resort, I'd pop the back of the amp open to ensure no caps or resistors have blown....

I've figured it out, all the splices are solid the IE unit was sending too much power so I turned it
down and messed with the gain on the amp. Seems fine now.
Thanks cam2Xrunner!

LAST QUESTION...
Any one know which wire is the hu switched power is on the standard Toyota harness? I think I'm spliced into the wrong one the amp goes on and off with the car but not the hu power button.
tia.

If it's the same as my Tacoma or most any other new Toyota, it's a thin grey wire.

The grey wire is the ACC wire. It will still cause the amp to turn on an off with the car not the amp. The only way that I can think of that you can switch the amp on and off along with the stock HU is to get a device that uses the speaker signal to switch the amp.

^ I think he ment HU rather than amp.

How bout a power antenna wire ... isn't that switched on and off with the hu?

I currently have it hooked up to the thin gray wire.

Oh ok. Yeah, when you turn the stereo off, if you're using the factory grey acc wire it will still stay on.

Power antenna might only turn on when am/fm radio is on. Not sure. Your tC has a power antenna?

You can always wire in an inline switch and manually turn it off

No, no power antenna but all the standard hu's that come in every Toyota have the lead its just a matter of whether the car utilizes it or not. The Scion hu might not have it tho since none of the scions have power antennas and the Scion hu is not used in any other Toyotas.

There is a green 7.5v ACC wire that I believe is the switched power ... the thin gray wire is the constant power.
