Pre-Out Voltage Q

Hey All,

I currently have a Kenwood headunit with 2 volt Pre-Amp Outputs.
This is run to a 300RMS amp (with gain almost all full) powering a 10" sub.
When I am running the headunit at high volume (~15) the sub sounds great and balanced with my Highs and Mids run off the headunit. But I don't want to go deaf listening that loud.
At normal listening levels (~5) the sub is barely if at all audible.

My Question is whether a headunit with higher voltage pre-amps will offer more output at lower listening levels? Otherwise I am going to return this amp and subwoofer. It is past my return date for the headunit, so I have to live with it for now.

Thanks!

What amp do you have?

With higher voltage preouts, you'll need to lower the gains so that the amp doesn't overheat, so it's likely that the volume will stay the same. Have you tried playing with the equalizer or the subwoofer level controls?

Yes, I have adjusted everything.
On the headunit (Kenwood EZ500) I have adjusted the cross-overs, sub output level, bass settings, loudness settings... done it all over and over.
Amplifier is a Blaupunkt PCA1300 Mono sub amp. 300RMS @ 4ohms.
I have adjusted gain, cross-over, and level boost.
Power is going to an Infinity Reference 1050w @4ohms in a sealed 0.75 ft^3 box.
Sub is against back seats firing toward rear of car.
