Only one Sub working

I have two sony subs and an sony amp. I have the RCA cables hooked up to the back up of my Alpine CD player. When I plug one of the RCA cable (just of the circle thingys). It only puts on one sub. But when I plug in the other one they dont work. But when I do leave the one in there it plays and sounds good and when I plug them kind of like \ (like that and i have two a pair rca jacks they both work but they dont sound like there putting out enough like the one when its running by itself. What do you think. Do I need to hook up somthing else to the back of my deck like clip another wire. Should I buy a new RCA cable because i am using my cousins cable that he had used when he had subs in his car. Thank you.
