Box Making 101

http://forum.sounddomain.com/forum/u...&f=11&t=070786

I will be attempting to make my own box.

Wanna know what is a good type of Jigsaw, that i can purchase from Home Depot? Not in the high price range. Average, i would say.

Things i Need to Buy:

MDF
Jigsaw
Clamps
Screws
Wood Glue
Liquid Nails
Ruler

Is a Universal Rotary Tool, a Must?

Home depot will be happy when i come in to shop.

Any jigsaw will do, but get one that has variable speed. Pick up some extra blades to.

A rotary tool is not necessary, but nice to have.

If you want to trim an item, you could use the Liquid Nails in place of the wood glue.

A drill and bit will make cutting the speaker holes easier. Get a drill bit that is big enough that the jigsaw blade will fit into it. Drill some holes around the edge of the circle you are cutting out, but drill them on the inside of the circle. Jigsaw from hole to hole, and cut across to other holes if needed.

table saw would be best to cut straight lines or u can use a regular hand saw and use a guide like a long metal piece to keep the line straight. when i made boxes for the 10" solobarics i had i used one of those circular cutters u use to make holes in the doors on each corner then cut the rest w/ a router. and yea liquid nails works great.

I would get a decent router before I got a "universal rotary tool" or you could just fly your butt to California so I can show you how it's done . j/k, give me a call and I'll help you out (I don't type well enough to do it by email )

It's not too common for a home center or regular lumberyard to have it but you could try a commercial lumber yard (if they will sell to the public) or ask a if they'll sell you some at a local cabinet/countertop shop.
