Generally you wan to match the subs Watts RMS with the amos Watts RMS. For example, if your sub is rated at 1200W RMS, youll want to get an amp that put out 1200W RMS. You also have to match impedances. If you sub woofer is a dual 2 ohm woofer, you would want to get an amp that does 1200W RMS at either 1 ohm or 4 ohms. Also, you could get an amp that is slightly stronger than the subs RMS ratings, and if properly setup, you would have no ill effects. You could also go lower without a problem. I will be running in a couple days an Arc Audio Flatline Subwofer which is rated at 1000W RMS/ 2000W Peak and will be pairing it to an MB Quart RAA2400, which puts out 800W RMS.
