Sub Problems!!?

when i hit LOUD bass the sub Snaps a bit!? what is that and anyway to fix it?

Sounds like the sub is bottoming out. What kind of sub, what type/size enclosure and how much power are you giving it?
Could also be tinsel lead slap.

Its a 10inch JL powered by 160RMS.i dont know how pwerful the sub is...we figured out the noise was that my box was not air tight and aur was escaping..i sealed what i could but it still does it abit. whats a tinsel lead slap? thanks

Tinsel leads are the small wires connected under the cone. I have had subs where the wires would actually hit the cone under high excursion. Was the leak where 2 panels join together? I don't think air escaping would make a "snapping" sound but a loose panel on the box itself could possibly make that noise..

how do i check for a tinsel lead problem? It was more a tapping then a snapping.. i guess...yes the (escaping air was were two panels join)

Take the sub out and see if there are marks on the bottom of the cone near the wires. I've used JL subs for years and have NEVER had/heard of a problem with them in this regard. On the other hand I only use W6's and W7's (which have some great technology to eliminate this possibily) so if it is a model below those it may be possible.
