Simple question, I'm looking for recommendations for a 4 channel amp to power 2 component and 2 2-way speakers. Budget is under $200. System as follows:
dude - after reading all these threads seems to me like no one wants to recommend any "budget" stuff, cuz it aint cool. gotta be willing to spend the retirement fund to wake up any good suggestions, cuz these guys are serious audio head turners.
I've mentioned it before, but it usually encounters some guff, but check the Profile California series on crutchfield and millionbuy.com. They're really inexpensive, and I hear they are a good budget buy. Also, surf e-bay, you can usually find something on there.

And its not that it "aint cool" but that you usually get what you pay for in the end, so why waste money on an amp that will eventually crap out on you sooner than a decent amp? To top that off, shelling out the extra cash on quality gear will usually allow for better performance in some aspect of the system. I'm not saying to go get a Tru or Genesis amp, but there are many other brands out there that fall in a decent quality/decent price range.
Check out Cam's list of "Whats good" and whats "not so good" in car audio gear.

Well put! That being said, my new favorite "budget amp" for a simple system is the Alpine MRV-F345. They can be had on eBay new for a bit over $200.00 or used for under $200.00. CEA certified, nice crossover, lots of real power for the money, well built and good looks! Also, "budget amp" and "cheap amp" are 2 different things. I consider a budget amp one that is of good quality and gives you a good amount of power/features for the money. A "cheap amp" is just that, a cheap amp!

Damn skippy! Other amps to consider that you can get on a budget: MTX (I've had good experience with them.), PPI's on E-bay (provided you don't get ripped off), This Pioneer might work if you can bridge front and rear speakers to two ohms each, and split the 300 watts so each speaker sees about 150 watts, though I don't know much about the "full range class D".
Just do some research and see whats out there. Check out SoundDomain.com, Crutchfield.com, Ebay, Millionbuy.com, etc...and find stuff you think might work. Hell, even if the prices aren't what you want, check the FS section of some car audio forums and see whats in there. You can always find a good deal on something.
BTW Marv, I dunno if I can make it up there for the BBQ. Check your PM.

yeah you get what you pay for, but some lower priced stuff might be fine for someone of us who don't want to go deaf. for the life of me there wasn't a $500 difference when I listened to the Alpine SPS171A's vs.some $700 Focals - and i can buy alot of hot outfits with that $500!
i've been reading alot and even on Basic Car Audio Electronics site it says: "I know that people like to say that Rockford is garbage but in nearly 20 years of doing repair work, I haven't seen another manufacturer deliver a product of such consistently high quality." So which are the "cheap" amps??
but the point here was what is the best "4 channel amp to power 2 component and 2 2-way speakers. Budget is under $200."? everything less than $200 can't be crap - maybe it doesn't have the quality to push a thumpin good system 8 hours a day loud until you go deaf (and you WILL go deaf, and it's not cool to be walkin around sayin nothin by HUH?). so if you don't need all that power there have to be some good amps - got recommendations here for Profile, MTX and Alpine, Pioneer.....now yer talkin.

I think you missed the point of the discussion. Power aside, we're talking about quality. Seriously, look up Cam's list. Oh screw it, I'll do it for you... From that list you can see a variety of gear, based on its' quality for the most part. The "Poor" section you want to stay away from. Unless, that is, you enjoy buying a new amp every few months because the build quality is crap, or perhaps it doesn't do the "four-bazillion watts" is claims. Which if a company has to blatently lie to you to get you to buy their product, should you really be doing business with them anyway?
Now as for the price thing, usually you get what you pay for, and we're talking MSRP here, and most other circumstances too, but with the internet and E-bay, you can find "steals" on quality or better equipment. A quality amp doesn't really "go bad", so you can get year and years of use from them (provided they are used and not abused), so picking up a used one is a good option. If you'll note the list (whish is pretty consentual around these parts, and most other places (Cam knows his shit)) Rockford falls under Quality; its by no means audiophile.
Different people are gonna want different things, so I just suggested a few companies to start with, and that would allow for the poster to select an amp they were comfortable with.
