4th Generation New deck suddenly turns off and have to wait a few minutes to turn it on again..?

I installed a Premier 680MP on my Gen 4 Camry. When I finally finished, it seem to work today. All of a sudden while I was driving...it just turned off. I turned it on again and then it turns off right away. Tried that 2-3 times until it eventually just wouldn't turn on.

I got to my school's parking lot and it finally worked like normal. I switched to a few stations for a few minutes and it seem to work ok...was it a fluke?

I do admit, this was my first car stereo installation but I followed all the rules. The only thing I could think of is that for the grounding cable from the stereo, I just electrical taped it to a ground instead of screwing it. I do know the back of this particular deck got real hot while I was testing during the installation but I believe that is normal.

Any suggestions?

thanks

Could that be the only reason then? Thing is, (it was dark), the ground has another wire that is plugged into it (OEM deck?) and I can't take it out as it doesn't seem to be a philips or flat head top...

I wanted to take that grounding wire out and then put this one it and screw it in.

Try screwing down that grounding wire.

I did a stereo install on my dad's car, and one of the speaker leads came off the speaker and it kept shorting and turning the stereo on and off. Don't know if this applies to you.

How did you connect the wires? Could the be shorting out on something?

As for the wires, I solder them with some rosin flux and covered it up with some electrical tape. The wires that weren't used, I tapped them up as well. So I guess it's just the grounding...I dont know how to screw it in...so I just taped that. It was a bit dark and late so perhaps there is another ground that I didn't see. "shrugs"

i had an aftermarket HU in my previous Gen 4. i never had to worry about grounding becuz i used a wire harness that connects to the OEM plugs. u connect the HU ground wire to the harness ground, which uses the OEM ground connection. just a thought...

Use a crimp connector. Either a ring or spade.

Then use a self tapping screw and screw it into something thats metal. Just make sure the metal is actually grounded, not all metal parts of a car are grounded.

The second picture is what his ground already looks like.

But I'm wondering if there is any difference between it being connected to metal and being rean through the wiring harness. He could just snip that end off and solder it onto the wiring harness he got too.

Yea....the 2nd one is on what is from the wiring harness. There is a ground that has another harnass onto it coming from behind the glovebox so Im guessing it could be the stock amp. So I used electrical tape and taped the HU ground wire on top of the other ground wire. Bad idea I guess...
