Class D is for competition. They produce alot of power but compromise sound quality.

Class refers to how the transistors are configured. Class A, AB, etc..

Not sure how Class D is configured. Gotta break out my electronics books and find out.

Class d has a switching power supply so it is able to produce more power and still stay cool. Class A is the cleanest of the amps but runs very hot and waste alot of amps to make a few watts of power they are only like 40% efficent. class ab is a lil better and is what most amps are. Class D is considered a sub amp only because while it is extremely efficent at close to 90% but it dose slightly distort the high end signals.
