My "understanding" and questions so far before purchasing more stuff
Hi all, first of all, what a great site category. I have learned alot more after reading through many of the threads. Now I have question of my own and hoping to have them explained.
I purchased the Pioneer DEH-P4800MP head unit (still in mail) for my 1997 camry le with pocket below factory radio. the RMS power output is 22 wattsx4 (meaning 22 watts of continuous power and 4 channels if i'm right), now 4 channels does it mean the capability of powering 4 speakers (ex. 2 front and 2 rear) ?
Secondly, if I'm right, the wider the bandwidth the better the radio will be? What is the exact difference between the RMS Power Bandwidth and the CD Frequency Response (50-15khz and 5-20 khz, respectively) ? I forgot the look at the RMS Power Bandwidth, I think it's too narrow.
Third, I really like the camry's stock front speakers, however my front passenger one blew few years ago and I have been using the back and driver front only (just dont have the sound's fullness feel). Now the RMS Power Range is 2-50 watts on the one I am looking at (Inf Reference 6012si). Since the head units peak power output is rated at 50 watts, there is no point of me getting a speaker that's like 2-100 watts correct? (I am not planning on buying an amp because I dont have the resource atm)
I have also read about the 2/3/4/5 ways design to a speaker. I think most common one for car is 2 ways correct? I dont want to put something in and can't utilize them fully at the same time.
With the Pioneer head unit on its way, do you have any suggestions on the front speakers that work well with it? front speakers are 6.5".
That is all the question I have so far, thanks to all you who take time read through this. Any advice will be appreciated greatly

To answer your first question about the 22x4, yes, you are correct. The internal amp on the HU will power 4 seperate speakers with 22 watts going to each speaker.
I'm not familiar with this bandwidth situation, maybe someone else can handle that.
RMS power range is mainly the important part in focusing on your third question. Peak power is not constant, and usually doesn't pertain to needed specifications. However, the 22 watts your HU will put out, will be within the ranges you mentioned (both of them). Those power ranges simply mean that those speakers can handle and perform well provided you give them any amount of power within those ranges (2-100 means any power between 2 watts and 100 watts will work, and since 22 falls in that range, it will work).
Two way speaker setups are the most common it seems, but really, you could make any of them work for you, but that over complicates things, so just stick with the two ways
Many people use the Infinitys and are pleased with them. They seem to be a good entry level speaker (actually a good company overall). Possibly, you might look at Alpine, Pioneer, Polk, Kenwood, etc...for main stream brands. Check out the stickies up top in this forum and look around for more info and products.

Now I have another question. According to crutchfield, where my hu came from, that to install the front door speakers for the 97 camry I have to :
"Installation Details for your 1997 Camry LE » 1. Use the factory speaker grilles. » 2. You must remove the factory speaker brackets and/or grilles. » 3. Re-drill the mounting screw holes."
factory speaker grilles? the hard plastic with 3 mounting holes on the original speaker? they are fixed onto the oem speakers pretty good (some strong glue?). how do I remove them exactly? cut the oem speakers out of the grill with a knife?
re-drill the mounting screw holes? would they be talking about on the speaker grill or the metal door panel?
components would be nice, but I dont have the budget to blow, plus i don't want make any holes for the tweeters. in the end i might just trash the old ones and drill 4 new holes straight in the doors. Most likely I will have to get an amp as well for the components setup correct?
Yeah, comps are where its at, so if you can, do it. But you're right, it does take a little more in the "doing" process.
As far as your other question, I have no idea about specific speaker grills (Mine are built into the door panel, so I have to take the whole panel out). If they are indeed talking about the plastic/stock baffles, then You will more than likely need new holes for your speakers. If I do recall, it is just held on by some rather tight holding glue. Baffles, aren't tough to make, so you could fab up some baffles to replace the plastic pieces and then mount the new speakers to those. You shouldn't have to drill new holes in your doors for a simple speaker swap.
Get a piece of wood/MDF that will reach all (three) of the holes (what, about 7" x 9"?). Rout the edges (if needed) to mimic the plastic baffles, and drill holes in the new baffle to match the stock ones. Then trace and cut out the necessary speaker requirements on the baffle, wire, mount and drop in. That should be about all there is to it (Provided you don't have the JBL system).
If you can wait, I'll be doing my comp install this weekend, and the mid-section of that whole ordeal will be identical to what you need.
Oh yeah, and I assume "pry" to mean probably.

yeah, strong holding glue most likely. Thanks for you input. im gonna get the HU in first before the speakers, so i will have time to wait and check out your setup (if you are going to share ).
Not only my front passenger speaker blew, the brand new speakers I tested today on that side provided very low and fuzzy sound. I was wondering if there is a fuse just for the front passenger side speaker? or do I have to tear all the factory bundled wires open and replace the 2 speaker wires? Thanks.

Well...if it is you're wiring, "replacing" the wire is a waste. Run new wire and just leave the old stuff disconnected.
Make sure all your regualr connections are good, and check each end of the wires.
What speakers did you get?
Oh yeah, and I got lazy on that tutorial. All there is to it though is unscrew the three bolts and pry off the plastic (but it sounds like you've already taken care of it)

I will probably just run 2 new speaker wires, I will figure something out, hopefully lol.
I picked up some 3 way pioneers from BB. Gonna have to make baffle for them for sure. But I have another set of speakers (Apline) coming on Thursday which I was told that it can be bolted on to the door directly. If that's the case, even better. Heehh, no problem about the tutorial, my HU will be here in a few hours and I have nothing but time. I will take some pictures of everything and post them later. heehh.. keep it up and thanks
