Removing Radio: Noob Question

How do I take the radio out of my '92 Celica GT-S? Any special tools, or is it like my last car where you just take the whole dash apart and rip it out? It's a system 10.

I have a few questions about it too, hopefully somebody here is familiar with it and can help me out...

I put an aftermarket Pioneer head unit in my last car, and I was able to plug my Ipod into the back of it using a cable that went from the headphone jack into the back of the radio using two RCA cables, one for left, one for right. Is it possible to do that with this stock radio?

And what are those cut wires doing up there in the corner...?

Also, the last person that owned this car has wires run to the back, for subs and an amp maybe?

When I listen to the radio it sounds great, but if I try to listen to a CD, it's really quiet and has no bass. Is it possible that he had bypassed the amp under the seat to go to one in the back, then never reconnected the one under the seat when he removed his aftermarket one?

I really don't know much about car stereos and wiring, and just about nothing at all about amps, so I appologize if I'm making no sense.

Any help would be great... I just want to listen to my cds or my Ipod, Cleveland radio stations all suck.

I left a post in the one you had in the Celica section, but as this is slightly different...
sadly, there are no RCA inputs in the back of the stock toyota system
to get the stock radio out, you must first remove the center console completely, then remove the panel under the steering wheel and the glovebox and panel, then you can get to it enough to remove it. It will be bracketed in with the popout cup holder. the black surround cannot be removed, only moved out of the way, unless you can find a way to unhook the wiring for the cigarette lighter/power port. you will then need a wiring harness to hook the aftermarket head unit to the stock wiring. check all these though, now that I see the cut wires, check the stock plug to make sure everything is wired into it. if there are any special tools, I would love to know too, b/c it was a pain for me to do all that.

what Pioneer head unit did you have? I'd like too know if I can do that.

I honestly don't remember, I sold it with the car. It was just a cheapie 200watt that came with a couple of 6x9s. Sounded decent for the amount of cash I put in it- just a couple hundred $s.

I looked at their website and it doesn't seem they sell it anymore... all their cheap ones play mp3s now too, I wish mine had. It did have audio inputs in the back though, and outs for subs.

I don't know if I really want to put another aftermarket radio in this car as well, or just get the one it has working properly. I don't need to hook up my Ipod if I can at least figured out how to get the cds to play properly. I'm afraid I'm gonna end up tearing all the carpet out to get to the wiring... I think the previous owner left something detached somewhere.
