ok so my kicker 12" L7 sub was fine up till today,
i dont kno wats wrong with it but i hear rattling noise when it bangs but if i hold the corner left cone down, the rattle stops, wat does that mean? if its blown, it wont be banging right? cuz mine is still banging, just got that rattling noise...
some ppl told me it might be the box, but if i hold the sub down, it still rattles, just the cone of the sub and it will stop rattling, any ideas???

Really a broken voice coil? Is the sound like a scratching noise? Also how does your surrounds feel? soft? hard?
I've blown, burnt voice coils, and demolished subs all my life. But if the sounds like scratching then its most likely your voicecoils are burnt. if your surrounds are soft, some times when you try to max out the sub it pushes the voicecoil out of its track and when the surround stretches it to its max, then it retracts back. but say the coil doesn't fall in the track perfect then you should have a different noise like a noise like when you have a bunch of papers and you try to stack them so you pound it on the table on its edges(that kind of sound). But overall if your speaker is making noises, somethings wrong. hope this helps

no the sound is a rattling sound, like how ppl's trunk rattle, just small rattle though, well the more the sub hits, the more it rattles, and the cone is soft but its normal all around like that so i dont kno...

i had the same problem with two old 10' sony's i had, one of them had this problem. if you push the actaul cone in (in the center) is it difficult? if so i think it is blown. mine would rattle really bad no matter what so i just ended up buy a new system.

Is your subs frame warped a little. Try and see that because you said that when you press the left corner the rattling stops. It could possibly be that when you press the left corner down the frame goes closer to the box, leaving a better seal. It could have came from not tightening the sub to the box well in the first place. so as time went on maybe the frame started to bend. Try that and let me know, I'll be thinking what else it could be. good luck
If it is blown, and out of warranty, you can contact Kicker about their trade-in program. You send them your blown sub, they give you credit toward buying a new sub or a refurbished sub through them.
It might/might not be worth your time, depending on the trade-in value, and the price you could buy a new one for from someone else.
When I traded in a dead 2ohm Kicker Solobaric 10" round, the end price was about the same as buying one from SoundDomain and some other online places.
I am not sure if Kicker still offers the trade-in deal. Contact them for more details.
