I have some Infinity 6010cs component woofers installed in the rear of my 94 Corolla and was looking at those foam baffles you can buy to 'improve bass response.' If anyone has them, do they work? They are cheap so I dont mind taking a chance on them, but would like to hear from someone who has them first.
I have used them. They usually hurt the bass response actually. When you use them you are basically placing the speaker in a small enclosure, which can decrease excursion. I usually just cut the baffles in half and use them like a moisture shield to protect the rear of the speaker, when water gets through the window seal and drips inside the door.
It's better to just let your speakers use the interior of the door or trunk as an enclosure.

Well, I can certainly confirm that they hurt bass response, and they also vibrate like hell when used with a powerful speaker, however, if you cut about a 1"-1.25" hole in the side of the baffle it creates the most incredible bass I have ever heard from a 6.5" speaker. Passengers have actually asked what kind of sub I have in the trunk.

That is interesting.
I will third the vote that they reduce bass. I tried a pair in my buddy's 90's Cavalier, on the stock rear 6x9's. The foam baffles reduced the bass ALOT. Even some stock GM 6x9 baffles from an 80's Oldsmobile reduced bass
Yea, they definetly sucked after I first installed them. However they did keep the rear deck from vibrating because of the added padding between speaker and mount (versus the stick on strip the speakers came with). I was about to tear them out when I got the idea to take my pocket knife and cut a round-ish hole in each one, and the results were amazing. I am now quite pleased with the purchase.
