Like the title says, a somewhat of a friend of mine is looking to get some audio equipment. I heard he was looking to get like 3 W7 and I definatly got him to reconsider (this kid no's squat about how much that would cost or how much power he would have to have.)
Anyways, he is now looking to me for some audio advice as to what he should get. So I come to you guys.
I somewhat have an idea of what to get. He has a $1500 spending limit, which is pretty nice, so i could do good things for him. But then he goes and says he would like to try and find a screened cd player. (my thoughts of this on instict was, "well there goes the 1500 then" but i'm not sure if there really that expensive but i know that would suck up alot of the funds.
O and yes and he is gonna need, H/U, subs(s) (not sure if he minds about that) and an amp for 1500. The box and wiring I can find somewhere, but try to keep the money spending on the other stuff to a minimum so there is maybe 100 to spare for a box and wiring and junk idk. lol
Also supposedly he is not into speakers, so im not gonna fight him to get any if he doesnt want to. But I was thinking maybe a pioneer deck with decent abilities for a good price. And then subs.. hmm I wasnt really sure what would be decent so that he had enough money to buy the sub and enough money to power it with the amp. So if he needs a big ass amp for a big ass sub.
But if you guys have any good ideas at the moment throw them out. I mean the kid was opting for the w7's so. Maybe a freakin RE XXX or an ID MAX, MTX 9500, or just the W7? Maybe something from TC Audio, Soundspliter, Asendant Audio?? haha I was thinking if it was just a sweet as 12 he would probably be happy, cuz i just have a feeling he's gonna get a ported box.
But yea just throw some ideas out guys. I'm gonna start trying to think some things up tomorrow, but i wanted to see if anyone here had any good ideas first.
Again he is not in for speakers, so just H/U, Sub(s), and Amp.
Edit: He's got a little car, so...what do you guys think. I dont wanna overload his electrical too bad, but I wanna be able to impress him lol. I dont know if 1 or 2 subs is a better option. Someone told me he'd probably be more happy with 2 but w/e whatever i tell him i'm sure he'll listen. Or shit should I just try to sell him my Kappa Perfects so i can get some better stuff? lol

Hmmm...Sounds like trying to convince someone who wants a Porsche that a Hyundai can get him to where he's going just as well.
LOL, true, but with that kind of limit, its like going out for a porsche and getting a nice little tuner car that'll go plenty fast.
$1,500...must be nice. I never saw that kinda money when I was in HS. Certainly doable, and might even be possible to get him a screen or two.
First off (since we already have the price requirement covered), what kinda car is it? This'll help us figure out space requirements, electrical needs, etc...
HU: Like I've suggested recently, Pioneer would be a great. I just put in th P880PRS and it is noticably better than my Alpine CDA-9825. Perhaps if you could find one that was simply capapble of playing DVDs or the like, but doesn't necessarily need a screen to be all-in-one with the deck, that might open up some cheaper screen options. Either that, or even cheaper, tell him to stop watching Pimp My Ride and Unique Whips!
Subs: Well, seems like the big names have already been covered, well, except Arc Audio. The Flatline (my next sub) is supposed to be great overall (but a bit on the pricey side; though you can pick up a used one in the $250 range). Their other subs are supposed to be good as well. Just read a follow up on the DIYMA 12" ref. sub over on ECA, and that thing looks like a monster, so it might be up his alley. I think they're around $250 new from DIYMA. JL is just so damn expensive. ID is usually out of stock from Car Domain. Some other stuff to look at: Oz Audio, (as always) the Solobarics, Orion, Cerwin Vega (the strokers pound like no body's business, and since your friend is only after that it seems, those might work), JBL, MA Audio, and I'm sure there's others out there I'm forgetting. I figure if the car permits, and whatnot, perhaps a nice big 15 might suit him well.
Amps: Well, even though he's not a "speaker" guy , he'll need to amp the stockers unless he just wants to roll around with literally NOTHING BUT BASS. A well powered, strong 12 or 15 will nearly totally drownd out stock speakers on stock power. I'd say lose any and all rear fill, get a nice 50-75 watt RMS two channel for the fronts.
For the subs, well, that'll eat up most of the power, so Look into some MA Audio amps (though they can get pricey), JBL is supposed to have some powerful ones, Hifonics is a very popular powerful amp brand and their dollar per watt is pretty damn good. Outside of that, search e-bay (and like always, mind Cam2Xrunner's list of what's good) and see what kind of deals you can find, that goes for everything. Check FS sections, etc...

Well I think I can convince him to drop the whole screen thing cuz If anything goes in the car I'm probably gonna have to install it, and I know nothing for screens.
So I'll tell him I reccomend a pioneer deck, maybe the one you listed (but remember this kid is very unaudio educated). But they seem like good Headunits for the average user too.
As for subs, I think I'm going to try and persuade him to buy my subs and amp maybe. If not I'll let him know all of this (I'll probably be helping him all the way through the buy process anyways.) But one of my friends said he'd probably want 2 subs, so i have 2 10's which he would probably like. I'll see what he thinks of those cuz I could sell them to him for a decent price with the amp and still get almost all my money back if I play my cards right .
As for the "speaker guy" comment. I already know thats an incredibly stupid idea to run stocks with no amp, But like i said before this kid basically knows nothing of audio lol, he just wants bump but will soon realize thats not all there is to it. I'm just gonna help him with what he wants and he can deal with the problems if he decides not to.
I think his car is a Nissan Altima.. if i remember right. Looks sorta like a rolla sized vehicle, so pretty small. It's probably a bit bigger.
Thx for the help though guys, I appriciate it.
Oo and i'll also look into those elemental designs as an option too, but damnit I dont want him to be more bumpin then me..
oo P.S. I'm still in High School and I have 3k in my checking, after spending about 1500 on my own system lol. Man do I just wanna sell my stuff and start over though. But looking at my stuff I know I will get nothing in the audio world, unless I sell them to some unknowing dumbshit who will pay practically what I did for them. If I try to sell them online I will get like nothing for my amps, and probably considerably less for the subs. O well, we'll see what happens. I kinda hope he wants to buy my stuff. I was thinking of telling him like $500 or $450 for my amp, box, and 2 10" subs. Considering I totalled it up and got $600. What do you guys think? Think he will be sucked into buying them?
I agree with the Elemental Designs comment. Of course, this is assuming he doesnt buy your equipment. The ED stuff is unbeleivable. The price is even better. By the way, that $630 is the price shipped ground!!! You can always upgrade the shipping method, but all their prices are including shipping. And if he really is that much of a noob, then the kv series wil be more/better than he's probably ever heard. I have a single 13kv in my car and it sounds amazing. Now I am more into the actual sounds a speaker makes vs. how loud it can be. Hopefully he grows out of being a basshead and learn there is more to the audio frequency range 20-80 htz. Most of us did, so maybe there is hope.

Yes yes, Hell maybe If I can get him to buy my equipment I'll look into some elemental. I know at first I was thinking of getting them, and then for some reason I got swayed into what I have now, dumb choice. Not gonna say the the infinities are bad though. They sound great I just think my amp is not as good as I had hoped.
But to tell you the truth, I dont even really like this kid so. I'm not to concerned whether he has good things or not, but if he does it will give me a good rep as a guy to go to for that kinda stuff lol. But I dont know what this kid plans to do, he probably thinks his stock speakers are fine fat chance.

Thx again
If that's the case, just go get some audiobahns. That way he can thump his crappy sound all day long and have some bling to show off the system. Elemental Design may be awesome, but it seems like this guy is all about bass and bling...Audiobahn with some crazy chrome flame grill...

Haha I could probably tell him that but idk if he thinks audiobaun looks good or not. But the kid was gonna go down to the shop and blow 1500 anyways so I don't know whether I should Sell him my stuff (which I would like to do) or just reccommend something crappy at a local shop.. hmm.. haha
