Rear 6x9 keep shutting off/on

Amp going bad? or something else?

Well I have an alpine stereo which I bought 2 yrs ago. I have 2 front component 6" speakers with tweeters and crossovers and also rear 6x9 speakers. All speakers are infinity kappas running off a Kicker 4ch 300w amplifier. I had this system for two years and never had any problems with it. Always play it fairly loud and the Amp would never shut off or give me any problems. Yesterday however, I was actually playing the music on low volum and about in 30 min the rear speakers would start to shut off and back on every few seconds. Today in the morning the rear speakers were working again, but 30 min later they started to go off and on again every 30 seconds or so. I don't think the amp is overheating since only the rear speakers are turning off and on...Can it be the main fuse under the hood? or wiring? or amp fuses?

Thanks all.

Wiring would be my guess. After a couple years, I'm sure something came loose.

Since you only have one amp for all 4 channels, I think you have a loose connection somewhere. Inspect the RCAs and the speaker wires.

Power wires and overheating should not be a problem because that would shut the amp off completely, not just the rear channels.

whats interesting is that in the morning going to work the rear speakers will start shutting off after 35-40 minutes(it's been doing this for 5 days now). Driving back home after work 6 hours later...the speakers are not shutting off at all(again, it has been like this for 5 days).

If it was the loose wires, wouldn't the rear speakers start shutting off and on right away as soon as I turn on my stereo?

I will check on the wiring these weekends tho.

Thanks all.

Ummm...no.

If you hit a bump at the right time/speed/whatever, it'll jiggle your wires, and break the connection. It doesn't have to be just because you turn it on.

I had one of my comps cut out on me last week, and I knew right away it was becuase I didn't reconnect the speaker lead at the amp well enough.

Just check your connections, at least at the amp, that should only take like two seconds. If its not there, then you might have to check at the speaker.

I checked the wiring to the amp and rear speakers and everything looks OK (not loose) I havent had a chance to pull out my stereo and check the wiring to the stereo...will do that on the weekends.

I was thinking about why my rear speakers will start shutting off/on 30-40 min in the mornings and don't do the shutting off/on when I drive back from work. In the morning i always drive with windows down so I'm bumping my stereo fairly loud. When I drive back home it gets really hot out side so I drive with windows up and the stereo is always on low volume. So can that be the problem? the rear speakers shut off only when playing the stereo loud? what can be causing this? I've always played my stereo loud for two years and never had a problem until about a week ago. I still have a feeling either the amp or maybe even the stereo is messing up?
