Tudra Stereo Decisions
Back in high school which was only about 5 years ago I spent alot of money putting a stereo into a piece of garbage vehicle. When I got my new Tundra I said I would never do that again. Now that I have had my truck for a few months I really miss the sound of my old rig's stereo. I still have some of the stuff from the old rig, but I want to get some new stuff and not go about it the same way I did last time.
Last time I started out with good stuff, but a couple years after that initial install I wanted better stuff. So I learned to go with want you really want in the first place or you will end up paying more in the long run.
I have been out of the car audio scene for a few years so I don't know what is still good and what isn't good anymore. I have a access cab with 6 speakers and the 6 disk changer in the head unit. I don't have Toyota's JBL system so I don't think I have the amp in the back storage area, but I would have to check.
The stock system sounds allright, but I really miss the subwoofer I used to have. I have thought about adding the sub in the storage area under the rear seat, but I have not really looked into it yet. I am not too into messing around with my wiring so something done by Toyota might be better. I really like listening to music with a good sounding system.
Before I had a Alpine head unit, one 12 inch JL W3v2 sub in an enlosed box, a 4 channel Rockford Fosgate amp punch 400 I think, a 500s rockford amp for the sub, alpine speakers ( Alpines top of the line at that time).
For me sound quality is more important that getting it loud. Also reliability and longevity of the stuff is important. I don't want to change the stuff all the time. I don't want to break the bank, but I would take the time to have a good system and save up to buy the good stuff. I was thinking one sub like I had before. I really like JL Audio subs, one W6v2 would be nice, but it might just take up too much room and be in the way. The new W3v3 might be better. I don't know about the stealthbox because a sub surrounded by the plastic center consol might not sound too good. I figured I would just have a separate box and wire it into the amp so if I need the room in back I can just take the sub out. As far as speakers all I have known is Alpine so I am open to suggestions there and with the amps. I like RF before, but I don't know about the new stuff. Concerning amps I would prefer to only have one in the truck. Whether that would entail using the deck to power the rear speakers and the amp to power the fronts and sub I don't know. When it comes to the head unit I like the Alpines, but again don't know about the new stuff.
Long thread, but I would appreciate any input.
