Amp install questions

Hi all,
Ive got a few questions on installing my amp

First of all, I have a monster amp kit. It has an in-line fuse holder which connects to the battery. However, this in-line fuse holder is on a 1ft wire which confuses me because I dont know where to connect the other side of the wire. Do I connect the power cable with this inline fuse holder and if so, why didnt it already come connected?

Secondly, this kit comes with 3 ft of 8guage ground cable. What is a ground cable and where exactly does it go?

Thanks in advance for any replies

you connect the other half of the length of the power wire to the other end of the fuse. thats where the two wires meet. the ground is more important than the power wire. a poor ground can start a fire. it connects to the ground terminal on the amp and then you need to ground the ring terminal end to a good grounding spot on the car. most of the time you have to strip away some paint and drill a hole with a self tapping screw for the ground terminal.

The fuse is in the middle of the wire so do I just connect one end of the in-line fuse wire with the power wire by twisting it together?

And what your saying about the ground: Do I just pick an open, unneeded place on the car like the bottom of the trunk, then drill a hole, put a screw in it, and connect it with the ground wire?

Thanks -Matt

I'm confused.

Does the 1 ft of wire connect to both sides of the fuse holder? Ie the wire is loop connected with by the fuse holder? Just cut the wire in the middle some where. One end will connect to the battery either by using another wire or a terminal on teh end. The other end will connect to a wire which you run to the amp.

When you make connections on this wire, you can either solder them together and cover with heatshrink or use insulated crimp connectors. Don't just twist the wires together and put electrical tape on there because tape is prone to come off and the twisting is prone to come apart. Both can be firee hazards. Once that wire is energized, contact with the chasis will short the battery and can cause a fire. Any bare wiring on your positive connection that touches ground is not a good thing.

Yep, tourning the 1ft of wire connects to both sides of the fuse already. I just need to solder the 1 ft of wire to the power cable now. Thanks for clearing that up. Anybody got suggestions on the grounding?

I think www.crutchfield.com or www.crutchfieldadvisor.com has a video about hooking up an amplifier in a car. Check it out, and search through their amp hookup stuff, should be pretty obvious.

The ground will go from the amp to the chasis somewhere. You can use an existing bolt or drill a new hole. I used the seatbelt bolt since the hole was already there and it is close to my amp.
