Have your alt and battery tested. It sounds as though one or the other is having a hard time keeping juiced. Be aware, a bad battery will cause your alt to overwork and fail prematurely. Just as a bad alt almost always damages the battery. Have both tested. If both are bad and you only replace one, it will ruin the new part as well.

Your amp could be overheating and malfunctioning. What kind of amp and ohm load are you running?

It is a good possibility. Are your subs shutting down entirely? I have never seen a amp reach protection without shutting off. If they are simply getting quieter, I would check the voltage. Autozone will do it for free.

ohm load is very important to know, especially when bridging. the amp could be going into protect mode...check your gain, make sure it isnt cranked..thats not a good. also, if there's too much of a load on the alternator and you dont have a capacitor, the amp will shut down, going into protect mode.

Correct. That is why I stated to check and see if your sub actualy shuts down. If not, then it probably isn't a protection state. Not all amps have a led for protection, but I have yet to find one that won't shut off entirely. I still suggest to have your electrical tested. Your wattage is all deependant upon the amount of voltage being fed into it. This is why most amps will never put out what they rate it at. Most will be rated for 14.4 volts supplied. This is what your altenator should be putting into your battery. Since your battery displaces 12 volts, you will lose about 10 percent of the rated power. If your altenator is not putting out 13.4 -14.4 volts, then your battery will be working harder to keep a 12 volt charge. As you use the system, your battery drains and can't keep up with your music. Once again, it is free to have it tested. If you wait, you could end up hurting the alt and battery. A cost of over 3 bills for parts alone.

capacitor, power cap, yep same thing. when your subs hit, do your lights dim or does any of the electrical system components seem like they're slower?
