4th Generation Amp in protect mode

Recently installed a Boss AVA-650 (used) to power 4 channels w/out subs. Worked initially but then cut out - no music just a periodic thump sound in rear speaker as protect mode flashed. Protect mode indicator in green is on continuously, red power light pulses every couple seconds. Stripped it down to power, remote and ground with no change in the indicators. Any suggestions or common problems?

I know on my amp when the red light is on it means it has power but it is not grounded properly. If everything is fine you should have a constant green light. Check your grounds!

Your first problem...you bought a Boss amp.
Your second problem...you thought it would work well.
LOL, but seriously, if you check all your grounds and reset your gains, and its still giving you a problem, get a better quality amp. See if you can't return this one, or pawn it off one someone else, and put that money towards a little bit better of an amp.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll keep troubleshooting. As for the quality of the amp - I guess you get what you pay for. I paid $21.00 with shipping. 1 for the amp and 20 for the shipping off EBAY. It was a gamble for a used amp but if it works, I'll take it.

Troubleshooting resulted in me shooting the amp. It appears that all of the BOSS-bashing may be warrented. Bought an slightly used Alpine MRV-f340 off ebay for $130. Kicks ass. Amp is a revelation in terms of sound quality and presence. Best of the Commodores (yeah, that's right) sounds amazing. Check this CD out for testing a system (mids, bass highs). Real bass and great mixing (Lionel Richie and bandmates were all studying engineering before the band) pay off. I defy anyone with any taste in music to refute this.

well glad to hear i am not the only one who listens to that music.... anyways for future reference boss, amps(also legacy, optimus, evaltion, lightning audio....etc.) can be made to run clean and clear. its just aplication. all you have to do is weld the chassis of the amp to the car. and make sure its a clean weld to, dont want it breakin loose when your pushing shopping carts at high speeds @ walmart (just to see the cart pushers faces) have i mentioned in any posts f-bomb walmart yet? if not there it is
