4th Generation Wiring Harnesses

Ok so I just received a free headunit from my friend who no longer has his old car that he used it in (a honda). Well the wiring harnesses dont match up to each other so I was wondering would simply buying a new wiring harness and cutting off the edges and soldering them into the new harness be sufficient?

the headunit is http://www.crutchfield.com/S-JR4DBWF...=020DXZ545#Tab

the harness i will buy
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Radio...spagenameZWD1V

and then a pocket since my current radio is DD
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Car-R...spagenameZWD1V

thanks for the help guys

Yes, just cut off the old Honda harness and solder on the Toyota one you listed. And yes, you will need that pocket.

The local stereo place here charge $10 for a harness, and $10 for those pockets. So you might find a better deal locally. The ones you listed are good price if you can combine shipping.

What does concern me is that you have a XLE V6 because those have different setups and you'll need to bypass the amp somehow. Does your stock radio say JBL anywhere on it, either on the stereo itself or on the speaker grills?

Thanks, I talked it over with a tech sujpport guy from crutchfield and got all the parts I needed (the harness, the pocket, as well as some baffles for my rear speakers). For bypassing, my cd player nor mesh grills say jbl on them which was strange, I dont remember if the speakers said it on them but ill find out when I take out the back ones I guess anyway. But it does infact look like this picture http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v4...pg&action=view from this writeup http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t70082.html

That'll work.

When I had a 02 Camry, it had the JBL system and I remember seeing that the speakers were 2 Ohms. I don't know if the Gen 4 speakers are 2 ohms or not. If it its, it could potentially cause the amp in the stereo to overheat and go into protect.

Yikes, I will bypass just incase. Now if only I could get a bit more cash for some subs. I was looking at some black friday adds for good deals but so far I dont see any really.... well besides some weird brand 2 12's, amp, and enclosure for 100 bucks lol. If only they were semi decent... Ill try to post the link for you soon.

page 10
if those were decent at all I would scoop them up but I havent really checked them out yet

O yes and for people that search later the parts I needed on crutchfield were
081TOYP0C
120701761

I mightve mixed some of those O's and 0's up though

Well, go look at the speakers first. I don't know for certain if the Gen 4 JBL system uses 2 ohm speakers or not. Easiest way would be to pop your trunk and look at the bottom side of the 6x9s on the rear deck.

You'll have to bypass the JBL stereo's amp because the wiring harness will not fit up to the harness that went into the JBL headunit. If your speakers are in fact 2 ohms, you may need to replace them with 4 ohm speakers.

Hopefully someone else will comment because my Camry does not have an amp to bypass and I no longer have my Gen 5 - nor did I ever modify the stereo system in that car.

That bypass picture is mine btw. But yea.. you should have an upg. speaker package if you have an xle.

My car is a 4.5 though.

My front JBL speakers were 2ohms 20 watts or something.

you shouldnt really have to do much to bypass the amp. The wiring harness is designed for it.
