Panasonic CQ-DF783U
Pioneer DEH-P3500 (this is already basically ruled out)
Alpine CDA-9807 (I like this best but a little to $$$$)
Pioneer DEH-550MP
Pioneer DEH-5500MP
I will also be hookin up a Infinty basslink so keep that in mind when tryin to help me out.. thanks
i had an alpine and now i have a pioneer and i would rather have alpine. it just feels more solid and i like the layout of the buttons better. plus i love the motorized flip down face.
The best way is to just find a retailer, bring in a CD and kill some time. Kill an hour or two if you have to, its going to be in your car for a long time.
Alpine's untouchable as far as the ability to fine tune your sound goes. If you're looking for a deck that's a great match for an excellent system (nice speakers, etc) Alpine will definately be a cut ahead. The 9807's one of the few Apn decks that doesn't look 80's old school too. I think they've got great feel and finish but their repair rate seems to be climbing.
Pioneer's kind of a value brand. They seem to have an edge on Alpine for reliablility even though their faceplates feel more cheaply constructed. Fewer features and tuneability is more limited, but great decks over-all for the price. Good amps and radio tuners in those too.
Panasonic's a good value like Pioneer. Probably even more limited in tuneability but I think they're the best looking of the three. Check out the construction of the faceplate though, most of them have a big clear plastic front that gets scratched up easily. I don't really know much about their reliability but supposedly less than one percent fail under warranty.
What's got the best controls for you to use while you're driving, check the remotes too. What do you want to see on your dashboard every time you get in your car?
Like Ren said, Pioneer isn't the greatest quality anymore, and you really want to stay away from Sony (trust me), JVC is known for faulty screens and displays. So, I would highly recommend four brand names:
Kenwood, Alpine, Clarion, Eclipse
Kenwood is pretty affordable and it's great quality, very old decks are still being installed in cars with no problems what-so-ever.
The three others are expensive compared to everything else on the market, but remember "You get your money's worth" with these 4 decks..
Good luck..

the only problem with the new alpines is that the subout voltage isnt near what they advertise. like on the 7897, they say its 4 volts but its really about 1.5 volts without clipping.
