dei trigger input - door

While I'm waiting for my relay to arrive in the mail for my trunk popper, I have a question for the alarm experts on the forum:

After my car was broken into last year, I realized that the alarm does not trigger on the front passenger door or the rear doors -- only opening the driver's door or trunk set off the alarm. This is significant because the thieves broke in from my passenger side door.

I don't remember ever testing the alarm after it was installed -- is it possible that a wiring hiccup arose sometime in the past 5 years? Or should I jump to conclusions and assume the installer picked the wrong wire for the door trigger? If it matters, this is a gen4 camry, and my domelight works fine; so does the 'door ajar' warning light in the instrument cluster. Alarm is the Viper 550 ESP.

Thanks for the input.

Are the triggers on separate circuits for each door? If so, the installer accidentally just tapped into the driver door's circuit without realizing it wasn't for all the doors.

If there's a separate trigger for each door, you have to run wire for each trigger, and run them into the alarm's trigger input with diodes on each wire.

My gen3 only has one trigger input for all the doors though, I'm not sure about gen 4.. back when I had a '98 cavalier, it had separate inputs.

Yeah, I suspect there's one that latches to ground only for the driver's door, but I think for Camry's there's one that holds ground for any of the four doors. Looks like I'll be snooping around for that this weekend.

Yep, the installer tapped the wrong wire. Took 10 minutes to probe/test and find the right wire... damn stereo shops. Can't be sure it's done right unless you do it yourself...
