DEI is the leading manufacturer of Automotive Security systems.

There's a few other brand names like Compustar, Alpine, Clifford.

You can get a basic alarm system, since that's what your father seems to need. Don't get any flashy bells and whistles.

By the way! I know DEI owns Clifford now, but you can still buy Clifford alarms that are older models but still brand new.

in my old corolla i had an avital in there that was a couple years old and one day it went nuts and ended up frying my starter when a bunch of stuff shorted out. even the guy at my shop said he had seen problems with that line but i dont know about the newer stuff so xenon can tell you about that. i had a python in my corolla to replace the avital and it worked great.

Well! I don't know if Future Shop still has that offer but for a while they used to replace any avital alarm with a viper alarm.

Avitals are not the best to have, they were always the cheap bottom line Clifford alarms, the Avital Starter Alarm combos were notorious for electrical problems.

I had an Avital on my Corolla and it used to go off and start beeping all by itself, I would just arm and a few seconds later it would start screaming. When I took the unit out thinking it was a defect and replaced with a new one, the exact same thing kept on happening!!
