got system installed, AMP FRIED the next day!

yup, i got an amp, deck and subs installed in my car...
it was done late at night, so i never got to test my shit out, so the next morning i thought id see how it all sounded....
so i'm driving along, arrive at my cousin's house...... then all of a sudden, i hear sizzling...and a shit load of smoke coming out of my amp. like FUK, 30 mins of using my NEWLY installed system.
this wasn't some fleamarket amp, it was the Pioneer Premier PRS-X720 Amp (competition series)...worth $600 US.

so ya i take it back to the installer, and they claim it's simply a defective amp? and it probably was...

does anyone else know what other causes there could be?

Technically your amp should not short out if the right fuse is used before the amp, check the fuse on your amp, and check the fuse they used on the power cable. If the fuse on the power cable is larger amperage than the one of the amp then it is their fault. Other wise the amp was a defective amp.

i got it done at futureshop cuz i needed receipts.
they said that it was the amp. the fuse they used was a Stinger Pro 150A..... and i believe the amp is 90, but i'm not to sure.
none of the fuses blew...
i'm not to sure but i know on the amp there is 3 fuses in a row that say 30A..... which ='s 90

xenon what u think

I'm using an 100A main fuse ANL-type, which is the black flat one. thats there with my battery.... Then at the rear end, where my powersplitting block is, theres 2 40amp glass (AGU) fuses, and both of my amps have 40amp plastic fuses in them.

150 is too much if youre amp only pulls 90 amps. you should have a 100 amp fuse at the battery.

no joke... that shop sucks if they put a 150 amp fuse to protect an amp that can draw at MOST 90 amps. I normally underrate my fuses to protect equipment... because I know I never run my amps anywhere near max current draw. I'd put like a 75 amp fuse on the main line to that amp. What was said is correct... the fuses should have blown protecting your equipment. If they didn't, either there was a shorted wire somewhere, or the internal circuitry is bad on the amp. If it is a new amp, send it back to the company, and next time go somewhere else for the install.
