any of you tried that alpine?

i'm running pioneer PRS 6.5's up front in my tacoma right now off an iva-w200, and it sounds ok, but i want something that will allow me to go louder and cleaner so i'm looking around for an amp now. also, it's possible that sometime in the future i'll bd adding rear speakers. as of now, my back door speakers are disconnected. so i guess i've kind of led into the question already, but can you audiophiles think of a better component/maybe rear amp for less than/around 400$? thanks.

You have an excellent source unit and good front speakers. I do not like any of the stuff from Best Buy, Circuit City, Crutchfield (still better than OEM though). Comparing by specs alone can be misleading. Sound is much more than a linear sine wave measured on an Oscilliscope.

Check out Zed Audio for "affordable audiophile quality". Their website and marketing are poor, but they make truly high end amps. I am using one of their amps to drive a Focal 165KP set and a custom Scan-Speak subwoofer.

Zed Audio $400

Alpine $400

Note the difference in specs and quality of components, surface mount technology, number of op-amps, double sided multi-layer silk screen, size of heatsink and transformers, etc. 26 lbs. vs. 6 lbs!

Even better, you could get a used Audison, Focal, McIntosh, Arc Audio amp off eBay.
