Pioneer DEH-P680MP Wiring Help

I was wiring my new HU in the other day and came across a wire that I am unsure what to do with. It is an orange wire with a white stripe that is supposed to connect to the lighting switch terminal.

HU is going into a 1995 Camry LE. I do see an orange wire with a white stripe that has been capped off, I think it is for the dimmer switch for the stock HU to control the brightness.

Am I supposed to connect the wire there? What is it supposed to do?

I've already installed the unit with that wire unconnected and everything seems to be working fine...

Thanks for the help!

That orange wire is indeed for the dimmer. I usually just cap it off and leave it.

I didn't do anything with it. As long as everything else functions, who cares...LOL

why would you need to connect it to begin with? does it serve an actual purpose?

i connected mine years ago. Basically, when you turn on your headlights, it'll dim the face a bit...because it's supposively at night and you don't need it as bright

x2

During the day, the display on the HU needs to defeat the ambient light for you to see it, so the display needs to be brighter. At night, you don't need it as bright, so when you turn the headlamps on, the display and other illumination will dim.

Think of the display like a projector and using a projector in the dark and when the room is illuminated.
