Mine are shot. Are they std 6 in? I'd like a nealry bolt up replacement that is not over $125 per speaker like the factory ones....I have only the std radio and cd that came with the car. Any ideas on wha to look for in budget speakers at say the local Best Buy?
It is a stock radio and I have no plans to do anything to it at all except R&R the factory front speakers (it has the 6 speaker JBL audio). As for a budget, I am either going ot find somethign WELL below the $125 per speaker that the dealer wanted for factory ones or I'll just keep fading it all to the rear. I know you guys love your radios and all - I did as well at one point before kids and such - but, I am hoping to spend less than a $100 (hopefully a lot less) for the whole thing. I will do the install myself, I just wanted to know before I got the door panel off, what size and such might be appropriate.
For $250 I might as well go the factory std route as those lasted 6 years before they tanked and I doubt I'll have this car for another 6 years.

Yeah, but for $250, you're actually getting far better speakers than the factory guys could imagine. I plan on getting the set Cam mentioned. Regardless, check some online retailers like cardomain.com and crutchfield, and there are many more.

I grant you that. But as the first post said I am not looking to do anything except get rid of the crackle and hiss of the blown speakers. I am not really interested in upgrading, but I thought a better choice was available for the same money or a little more than I might spend getting used facotry parts and certainly less than the $125 per speaker for factory new, while still avoiding a "worse" sound than the factory stock. I jsut assumed that the "factory" sound could be obtained for somethign much less than the dealer price fo $125 per speaker.
I appreciate the advise and know that I could get a much better system if I just sunk some more cash, but that ain't happening for this car. If I was willing to spend $250 on it I have a moderatly long list of other things that would come first.
As it stands I figure I'll get a pair from Crutchfield in the $60 - $90 range (probably near the middle of that range)
People get these pretty often and are usually pretty happy with them. I havent really heard anything negative. Plus they are on sale, and free shipping.
^ These are Polks new 07 version of the DB's. No reviews yet for these but if people liked the old DB's I'm sure these are fine too. $100 bucks flat for those though.
These are more tweetered out as Infinity is pretty much known for that. So if you like crystal clear music with little to no midbass these would work for you. Depends on whether you jam out, or just casually listen all the time. If its casual listening these would work great because normally you cant hear good midbass on these speakers till they have more power anyways, and these speakers have good high tweeters so you'll be able to make out voices well, and all other high freq.
Never actually heard any MTX speakers, but I have heard they are decent. Alot of people Ihave heard from like their tweeters, and midbass, but your going to have to pay a bit more for these.
Idk, those are all I'd really reccommend from cardomain. Crutchfield pretty much has the same sort of stuff. The only other I would say off the top of my head that people get are Alpine's type-r set. Alot of people seem to like them.
BTW I have some Polk Audio db690's 6x9's I could sell you if your interested in some back speakers as well.

My bro has these right now too, I'm thinking of picking up a pair as well. Just gotta find someone to buy these Polks now.
Not a problem. The other guys were just trying to help, because there is a component set out from Pioneer that is supposed to be really cheap for its quality at $250.
I would suggest it too, but Since you are just looking to upg. stock speaks and the car doesnt really mean as much to you, nor perfect music quality, these should do you just fine.
Don't take the other people the wrong way though, they just wanted to see you do the best with your money.
